Trijicon TR24G Initial impressions....

Here’s my TR24G set-up on my new build. Not sure exactly what I would classify this particular build as, but I cant wait to take it out this week to run some drills with the new Triji TR24G.

Some shots looking thru the TR24G:

[b]This thing looks to be quite promising, and completely awesome from my initial impressions.

The green tritium is super bright, and completely useful in LOW/NO light scenarios from what I can tell so far.

As Steve already pointed out, the LaRue 1.93" height (LT-135) mount is the ideal height to facilitate a more “Heads-up” sight-picture in my opinion as well. The LT-135 puts the scope at about the same height as my Eotech & Aimpoints which are set-up for “lower 1/3” co-witness.

The only potential issue is that you may, or may not be able to shoot “nose-to-charging-handle” if you are not running a handguard with a continuous top rail that will allow you to move the LT-135 further forward on the rail than a standard flattop receiver allows. I found that for this set-up, I would need the TR24G to be mounted about 3-4" further forward to facilitate proper eye-relief if shooting “nose-to-charging-handle”. But I prefer the height of the 1.93" LT-135 mount soo much more than the extended eye-relief (LT-139) mount that I will compromise and get a cheekweld a little further back on the stock.

I also ordered a “Cattail” from 3 Gun Stuff for my TR24G, and it seems like a very well designed, and well made accessory for variable magnification scopes. I received it from 3GS three days after placing my order on-line thru their site.

I will have some more thoughts on the new Triji after I hit the range this week…

Stay safe,
Nick

Wow Nick…that TR24-G looks sweet! I have had mine on order now for 5 months and still no luck in getting one:( where did you find it if you don’t mind me asking? Back to the waiting game I guess, maybe I will find one b4 2010!!!

I got mine off of GunBroker.com It was the only one the seller had. You may want to check with Brownell’s over the next week or two. If their estimates are accurate, they should have some it this week.

Looks great, Nick, congrats on scoring one! My red one should be here by the weekend. Looking forward to hearing more about the green – it was a tough call to either wait or pick up a red while available. Maybe between the two of us we can share some info to help others decide if the green is worth all the hype.

Yes, Let me know how the red tritium works in low/no light. Hopefully it is brighter than the Tripower’s red tritium, but I dont know if they can make the red as bright as they can do with the green.

My feeling thus far is that the main benefit of the green reticle over the others (red, amber) is it’s usefulness in low/no-light situations due to the brightness of the green tritium.

I had a TR21R before and was satisfied with the reticle on it, so I’m not expecting any surprises on the 24, but I expect that you’re correct that the green will be brighter in low-light.

Looks great and the green really stands out. I have been thinking about getting one of these for a bcm middy I have.

Those pics are really helpful especially the low light. I have a red model on order, really looking forward to it now. I have used a TR21 with red triangle and found it worked well, so I went with what I knew. But those pics of the green model has me rethinking my selection. Looks like the green is a very good low light choice. I guess time will tell.

I’m looking at switching from my RDS with magnifier to either a TR24 or the new IOR 1/4. I have a question for you about the TR24. How is the illumination in the dark with a high intensity flashlight? On my tripower, the tritium is not bright enough and I have to use the batteries so it doesn’t wash out with my rifle light.

I am worried that the TR24 may have the same problem at night and I’ll loose the reticle.

Any help is appreciated.

Good job Nick…

Great review…I think I may have to get one of those TR24G’s. If I only could find one in stock.

I got to run the TR24G at the ITOA’s Rifle FTX held at the National Guard range in Marseilles, IL. today.

I ran it on my duty rifle (16" Bushmaster Superlight/Pencil barrel) and I am now planning on keeping it on my duty gun permanently. It worked that well. Even better than I expected:D

I did not get to run it on the build pictured above due to functional issues that I hope to diagnose this week.

The skys varied from clear blue, to heavily overcast/tornado warning. The fiber optic worked perfectly in all of the daylight conditions.

In bright sunlight, the fiber optic shade came in handy, as it would get super bright if not turned down.

On the 300m automated pop-up range, I shot it clean with quick & easy hits out to 300m. I was never able to do that with my Eotechs or Aimpoints.

I am hoping to run a group of my guys thru a basic carbine course on the local PD 100yd range in the next two weeks, and plan to do the CSAT Standards which should cover all of the bases throughly (Speed & Accuracy).

Needless to say, I am happier than a pig in shit with the new Triji:D

More later…
