Those of you that own this optic, how much eye relief do you believe the optic to have? I measured the ones we have and came up with under 3 inches of eye relief.

Not an owner but I’m always curious about interest with eye relief on an AR. In your opinion, what is a desirable number and why?
I like 3" myself so you don’t have to shoot nose to charging handle if you don’t want too.

My optics experience w/the AR is limited to an Eotech, with just a couple of forrays into shooting someone else’s scope-equipped carbine, so I don’t have much experience. At least with AR’s, but I have many rounds down range with my bolt Swede gun. But I started w/irons and adopted a NTCH hold (or very close) and that’s what I’ve become comfortable with. When I try to use the same hold on a scope-equipepd carbine, it doesn’t work unless the scope is shoved forward with extension rings/mounts.
In all honesty, I just never understood why “longish” eye relief is considered so desirable when in order to use the optic, you have to then pair it with specialized mounts to shove it forward. AR’s don’t recoil much so in my mind much of the eye relief is wasted. Or alternatively, you need to adjust your cheekweld and move your head farther back on the stock, but that just doesn’t seem natural to me.
Most all tactical type scopes have between 2-3" of eye relief. There is only one that I am aware of that has more than that and that is the Trijicon TR21. This optic does require a special mount (LT SPR-EER).
I believe that 2-3 inches of eye relief are desirable so you do not have to always be on top of the charging handle.

That was what I was thinking, 2 - 3" is plenty and 2 - 2.5" might even be optimum given form factor limitations of flat top real estate, scope tube lengths and lack of recoil for the cartridge.
To awaken an old thread… (as I have been researching the TA33-8)
According to Trijicon, the EYE RELIEF for the TA33-8 is only 1.9". Only .4" better than a TA31… ![]()
Eye Relief (in) 1.90
Grant and others have commented that it is more like 2-3" of eye relief…
Which is it?

You know what I just realized- that TA33 looks damn nice on a carry handle. Seriuosly.
Grant- call me!!!
xxxxx
that will definitely get you close but you have to take into account your eye’s lens.
aim the sucker at the sun and have your friend measure from the lens to your eye!

1.6in closest and 2.7in farthest for me, so my cheekweld is roughly 2"
thats just me though.
2-3 inches.

The compact ACOG in a carry handle is a very nice setup IMHO.

Gents,
I’m considering a TA33R-8 for this carbine

Got a few questions:
The above carbine has a 14.5 Noveske midlength bbl. Does the FSB will interfere with this scopes image? I dont want a small blurry shadow in my sight picture. I know that I’ll have to remove the Larue BUIS and install a flip one (Troy) but I dont want to mess with the FSB. Any one here have firsthand experience with a midlength sight radius and the TA33R?
I shoot mostly with both eyes open using irons and/or the Aimpoint. So, is it possible to easily focus the chevron reticle with both eyes open?
I really like the Aimpoint, but want to use it better with a LMT 10.5 upper I have. Also I think that some magnification will be of great benefit to “enhance” the capabilities of the Noveske SS bbl.
As always, any help will be greatly appreciated as I have no way to try for myself an acog locally.
PS. Grant, sorry for the hijack  I guess my questions may help other members as well and dont wanted to start a new thread ![]()
On a carbine length upper, the FSB is virtually undetectable with the TA60 mount. I would imagine a mid-length should be no different.

Absolutely, it will be a little different than an Aimpoint, but you should be able to adapt very quickly. My g/f who has never shot anything other than irons and an Aimpoint was able to adapt to the ACOG in no time.

I am very happy with my TA33, I am willing to bet you would be too. As you stated I too think the magnification of the TA33 will take better advantage of the platforms capabilities.
I think that the TA33 is a good fit for that weapon.
We also just got a fresh batch of TA33R-8 in stock! ![]()

Is there a “kill flash” for the TA-33? or does it use the same one as the traditional compact ACOG?
Yes and we have them in stock. ![]()

cool…which model number and ill order right now ![]()
