Just mounted my RMR to my Glock 17. As soon as I tightened it down, the red dot would disappear. After much frustration, I finally figured out that the brass terminal was shorting out on the little metal shim supplied with the mount (yes it was turned the correct way to prevent it from doing so). I took some fine metal dental pic’s and bent the “negative” brass terminal in the battery cavity where it wouldn’t force the terminal onto the plate. It works fine now but I don’t like having to rig something that costs $500. This is not cool. They need to have the bottom encapsulated where there is no chance of shorting out. This would also make it much more water tight. I’m not technical guru but how can I see this right off the bat, why didn’t Trijicon think of this?
I’m having trouble picking up on the dot, I guess that just takes practice. The jury is still out on this set up, not sure it’s going to work for me. I’m an iron sights guy when it comes to pistols but maybe I’ll learn to like it.
As to picking up the dot try this. Its something we tell new shooters not to do but it can help with a dot. Porpose the gun. Meaning draw tih the muzzle slightly high and push the muzzle down at full extension and you will see the dot as the muzzle comes down. It helped me on my open gun for USPSA. I don’t have to do it so much now as I am used to it. Also practice a lot of one shot drills. Waste less ammo and helps you get used to picking up the dot.
