I am new to AR optics and have a chance to buy a used trijicon acog 4x32 jn 8 12 scope. I think it is an older model but that is ok since I can not afford a new one. Can anyone tell me anything about them. Are they good optics, used but good condition what are they worth, we there problems with them that I should pass, most of my shooting is 100 and less.
I have a similar one. Great optic. I’ve seen them as low as $600 to about $750, if I remember correctly, though usually a bit more. The body can look like hell but still function 100%.
If all you’re shooting is 100 yards though, I’d look at a red dot or a lower magnification optic.
Okay, the BDC in most ACOG’s is calibrated for M855 62 grain ammunition being fired from a 14.5 inch barrel. There’s all kinds of debate on how much this matters, how you can adapt etc… It matters. You’ve got to ask yourself what the point of buying a fixed 4X optic is, especially given that most of your shooting is done at 100M and closer, and furthermore, that said optic has a BDC that’s not even designed for the barrel length and ammunition you’re using. My opinion? Bad purchase. Go with either a RDS or a variable power optic with no BDC. (Yes, you’ll have to learn how to actually use a rifle scope without the BDC holding your hand.)
Thanks for the info. I have a scope on my Colt and even shoot it well. It really helps old eyes. I had a Holographic sight (old dot) on the M&P. I kinda feel the same way. Think it is going to be sold and go back to the Dot.
I am starting to shoot three gun. Most of the shots are 25 to 100 yards. Owner a AR for a while but just in the last year started shooting it much. I really like the Bushnell Holographic sight (as I am left eye dom but shot right handed). I am thinking when It dies get a Eoteck 512.
