I came home tonight to find a bonanza of goodies…UPS left 52lbs of ammo on the front step and USPS left a Priority Mail envelope which contained a new trigger group for my SR556.
I installed the new trigger, springs and hammer then proceeded to function check. So, here’s the question. When I pull the trigger (which is very crisp with no creep BTW) and hold it back, if I pull the charging handle it will reset the trigger and fire with nearly no pressure. I think under recoil it could go into an auto cycle. What to do?
I took the SR556 to range today. First I loaded a single round and removed the magazine. I fired the rifle and the trigger reset normally, I dry fired it to be sure. Then I put two rounds in the magazine, again no problem. I went to a full magazine, then proceeded to send 150 trouble free rounds down range. I love the new trigger, no perceptible creep. Just pressure then bang!
You need a trigger pull gauge. Maybe it’s a nice crispy 4 Lbs and you were just used to a really bad trigger. Or maybe it’s < 3 Lbs, which [IMO] could be unsafe.
