Trailer: "The Purge"

Makes me want to load all my PMAGS. :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s with all the dystopian stuff coming out of Hollyweird lately? lol.

I actually think it looks decent. Lol.

I will watch this.

Has potential.

But sounds stupid as hell.

But you know what it will turn into.

No one will be armed except the bad guys or at best they will have an inept “red shirt” who will be disarmed and killed with his own weapon. Everyone else will turn into a pile of quivering jelly and cry/scream in the corner while they are murdered horribly. The “last man standing” will use some stupid trick to cause the bad guys to off each other or themselves.

I really think that the reason that Hollywood is so anti-gun/self defense is because it will would ruin 90% of their plot devices. CCW would finish most movies in the first 15 min.

Upon looking closely, I see that in the trailer there are actually three of the “good guys” armed. The father is walking down a dark hall with a revolver, the black guy has some kind of handgun at some point, and then towards the end the father is shooting some kind of full-auto SMG and in another shot the daughter is bashing someone with the butt of a M14. Then another clip shows the daughter pointing a 1911. But apparently no SBR’s with Aimpoint micros.

What confuses me is why the “son” looks like a girl.

GATTACA meets The Hunger Games, with out the hot chicks.

Saw this one a few months back when the trailer was released, I’m kind of a trailer whore and keep up with genres that interest me.

As for the dystopian theme, Hollyweird runs in cycles. The studios even go as far as to have corporate spies. This is how we get movies that come out which have similar themes. Recent examples of this is Olympus Has Fallen vs. Whitehouse Down , Oblivion vs. Elysium, and so on.

Like the reverse version of Kristin Stewart in Panic Room?

Hey Star Trek did this, in a way, back in the 60s

Yeap, I’m pretty sure there was a Twilight Zone episode done as well. A lot of current writers were influenced on the old re-runs.

Wife and I just had a conversation about the trailer. Would it actually work? Would America actually turn out better if we had this?

The premise is a bunch of psychopaths magically obey the law 364 out of 365 days…

Negative, see Roman history (though there are many others) for examples of sensational blood lust that could never be quenched.

Like all horror movies, it relies on a premise that by itself shatters my suspension of disbelief.

And this coming from a guy who enjoys The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and a good deal of the superhero movies to come out of Hollywood of late (most of the Marvel movies, a couple of the X-Men (also Marvel, I know) movies, the Christopher Nolan Batman movies).

Seriously. 12 hours, all crime is legal, and the best they can do is hunt one guy? Why not, oh, I don’t know, find the neighborhoods (see: gated communities) of the rich people, break into one of their houses, kill them and steal their stuff? And if you get it done fast enough, keep on working through the neighborhood. Hell, half of DC would probably try to kick down the doors of the White House (regardless of who is living there) and the doors of half the Senators, Representatives, and Supreme Court Justices. Which would shut down the government for a hell of a lot longer than just 12 hours.

well you would think if this is an annual thing that people each year would be prepared to the hilt where it essentially cancels the premise of the all crime is legal through self enforcement

Holy crap, I never realized that was her… until now.

I want to/will see it.

But…

It looks like most of the badguys brought knives and bats to a gunfight. Easy day.

Amen Brother! Now where did I put my G18 and the MO-CHINE GUN…

C4

LOL.

Some music to put us in the mood?
