trading a Mini 14 for ammo to break in my AR for hunting?

Is this a good idea? I want to go hunting fox and deer with my AR and need to break it in, make sure its accurate and practice my shots.

I’m thinking it’s okay to have one Semi Auto rifle that I know well rather than 2 just sitting there. I’m also getting a 10mm 1911 with the ammo so I won’t really lose a gun.

Good idea?

Sounds like you’re trying to justify a decision you’ve already made in your head.

Ask yourself: Is it worth giving up a relatively permanent item (rifle) for an expendable resource (ammo)? That’s your call.

I just want to maximize my AR trigger time and get that 10mm I always wanted. Both rifles are 5.56 and so the mini is just a back up or loaner.

If you do that, you’d simply be practicing with your AR for the sake of practicing, which is good. No AR requires a “break-in,” unless it was built of hand-fitted parts. Wive’s tale, don’t waste your thoughts on it.

If you already bought the AR, and aren’t having any problems with or questions about the gun, this is a Facebook status-update topic, not an AR GD topic.
