Where can I find some tracer rounds for my M4? Also some incendiary rounds? Just wanting to have some fun with this sort of ammo. And, can either of these ammo types be bought on the net? Thanks.
I bet you can find them on the net somewhere (federal)American Eagle makes some…I’ve got a few boxes downstairs. Shoot them on the 4th at the range (down range).

Federal American Eagle .223 M856 64gr Tactical Tracer 20/Box
ammunitiontogo has tracer and so does ammoman last I checked. If you want incendiary rounds ammunitiontogo is probably the best source for those.
Every time I go to the local gun show some guy has a can or two full of tracer rounds…sells em for I think $8 per 10rd stripper clip…
Try this guy. He has all kinds of cool ammo.

I got mine from Natchez several months back for less than $8.00 per 20rds. I see they have gone up a bit.
Most dealers like ammoman can’t get rid of these things. I can remember when Ammoman would put package deals where they’d mix tracers with ball ammo to try and move the damned things.
Mark,
Is tracer ammunition legal in Arizona? I was thinking of getting some just for shits and giggles or total chaos and breakdown of society as we know. it. ![]()
I don’t know. I’ve shot it from time to time. I’ve heard of people getting cited for shooting it up north during high fire risk periods. I don’t think there’s any laws against it though.
Indeed, please be careful with these rounds. I have had to put out a small forest fire (Western SD) due to what appeared to be carelessness when shooting these rounds. They can start fires…
Buckaroo
Buckaroo is 100% right, tracer rounds WILL start fires, especially if we’re talking about grass lands or areas with a lot of dry leaves. I have never messed with the actual incendary rounds but I imagine they would be worse.
More often than not while firing at buildings in theater if they were within tracer burnout it would start a fire in the rooms with windows, keep that in mind…
Shits and giggles, go ahead, but if you’re concerned about “total breakdown of society” don’t bother. Your money would be better spent buying more regular ammo. Tracer ammunition is used to show other members of your team where to direct their fire. I can think of very few post-apocalyptic scenarios where you will need to do that <g>.
Of course, I’m talking about shoulder-fired weapons, here. Tracers in a minigun are just used to aim the damn thing…
That guy is selling M855 for a buck a round:D
I’ve heard of them being used as the last 3-5 rounds out of a mag, so the soldier can tell when its almost time for a mag change in the heat of combat.
Any thoughts on this?
True, some people do advocate them for this, and I have loaded this way previously (in my previous line of work) but in my very limited experience, if your pucker factor is so high that you don’t ‘feel’ your magazine getting light, you won’t notice the tracers ('cept at night, of course).
Others with more recent 2-way shooting range experience - feel free to opine differently if you disagree.
And if you are considering them for use as a civilian to “detect” when your magazine is getting low, remember one of the immortal “Murphy’s Laws of Combat” : Tracers work both ways.
True, but they may not know that you’re using them for round count purposes. I don’t know shit when it comes down to it though, the only “combat” experience I have is inner-city law enforcement.
He’s not talking about signalling to your targets that your ammo is low…he’s talking about the fact that the tracer easily points back to your position.
Sorry, I should have been clearer, I understand that part, what I should have said was at least they shouldn’t know that you’re using them for round-count. As for telegraphing your position, you’re using a shoulder fired weapon, not a fixed position, so hopefully you won’t be in the last place that a tracer came from.
Anyway, all theorizing aside, I just got a few hundred rounds of the M856 awhile back because they haven’t made it illegal yet, and I can, and I just threw it on the shelf with the other 10,000 rounds of other shit that are sitting there.
