Top Rail Screw Bushing Broke Free on Sig556 *PICS*

At the suggestion of a couple members on here I decided to loc-tite the three screws on the top rail that sits on the upper receiver.
In doing so and being curious I completely removed the rail to see how it was all put together.
When I was putting everything back together the bushing type female part that the screw goes into broke free from its hole in the receiver and now it just free spins in the hole and I can’t tighten the rail down on top of the receiver.
I also noticed that a small hexagon washer popped off from inside that really looked like it was never more than either painted on or loc-tight’ed on.
Needless to say I can’t get the washer back in place now.
The rail sits almost where is should but I can flex it by hand just a little bit downward to where it truly should sit and the screw is no longer flush with the rail.
I think it might be functional…it just looks like crap.

In the above two pics you can see the underside of the receiver where the holes are drilled. You can also see where the little washer is supposed to be.

The screw where it is currently sitting.

The washer.

On another note…I think I’m done with this rifle, mostly due to accuracy issues. This new issue is kind of the straw that broke the camel’s back so to speak.
I think it’s time to get rid of it and build a true AR.

I think that is wise.

I don’t want to beat a man while he is down with everything I really want to say about US SIG so I will just leave that be. The good news is there are so many people who insist these are “just as good as Swiss” that you probably won’t have much trouble unloading it.

And I’d recommend putting the money towards a Colt. Builds are great for learning about the rifle, but something about that manufacturer warranty that makes the small extra cost worth it.

I’ve got no qualms about Colt since that’s what I first learned on in basic…I just want to build a sub MOA rifle for hunting out to about 150yrs or so.
You say Colt though…as far as off the shelf rifles why not an M&P or some of the other, non-barbain basement varieties out there.

If you want guaranteed sub-MOA off-the-shelf, 16" mil-spec carbines are typically not going to get you there.

I didn’t expect that with a mass produced rifle thats why I want to build one.
What your opinion on the best off the self rifle out there though?

Also, I called Sig and I’m just going to let them figure it out and then when I get it back I’m going to get rid of it.

For the level of accuracy you’re looking for, I’d have to vote for Noveske (SS barrel) or LaRue. But yeah, building your own is a surer way of achieving your goals.

I’m liking the LaRue uppers, especially being able to keep my money in Texas, but I think getting a Noveske would be a nice option too.
How to do you feel about White Oak Armament? I’d never heard of them before today.

No personal experience with WOA, but everything I read is glowing. If you’re looking at just barrels, it’s hard to beat http://www.rockcreekbarrels.com/ (just as another option).
