So I’m stuck in Massachusetts and would like to get something like a BCM, DD, KAC, Colt, etc., most of which don’t have compliant models. What I’m looking to do is find an online gun store that has a top-quality smith that would pin and weld a battlecomp, shave down a bayonet lug and the rest of a FSB to install a rail. Pinning a stock would be nice, but I might just throw a fixed stock on to keep things simple.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I’ve already reached out to Grant and Clyde Armory, but they don’t do muzzle device pinning.
You could get your parts from Grant and send them to Adco for pinning, shaving, and rail installation. I’m also in mass and got a lot of my parts from Grant.

He can custom build a rifle to your specifications, using components you select, or if you want a complete BCM modified to ban-legal status, he can do that as well.
Order your upper first and take care of the pinning the comp, and removing the lug. You might even be able to have the upper drop shipped to adco. Another option is to find a 14.5 you like from BCM that has a lo pro gas block. That takes care of the upper you get it straight from BCM with pinned and welded comp no bayonet lug. Then contact grant for the lower. If he cant pin the stock make sure whatever ffl you do the transfer through can do it. Or go the fixed stock route.
If you don’t like the 14.5 call BCM and see if they Will pin the comp on a 16. They have excellent service and if they do it for the 14.5 Im sure they could on a 16. If you want an upper with a fsb just order the upper. take a dremel and cut off the lug. Then take care of the lower.
Shipping it right to adco is your best bet. Just make sure you go to their website and place the proper order. They have great service their so just give them a call or email.
I shot with a guy from Mass a couple of weeks ago. He was shooting a Noveske. Rainier Arms built it for him and did all the necessary modifications to meet Mass law.
You can also order directly from Noveske (or via a Noveske retailer) and they will pin comps and shave bayolugs. I have done this with several uppers.
If you want a battle comp, they are pretty unbeatable for price via Noveske. I believe it was a surprisingly small price increase for the BattleComp option (I want to say maybe only $20), with no charge for pinning or shaving the lug.
