Took my son to the range yesterday.

I took my 12 yr old son to the range yesterday for his first time. He has been with me a few times and fired a couple of rounds but nothing real serious. He has been just ate up with baseball the last few years so that he did not want to go shoot with me. He swings a mean bat guys !! He blasted a 2-run homer on opening day of L.L. that busted out a light on the scoreboard !! Maybe I can be his manager when he turns pro so I can buy lots of new toys to shoot with. Lately he has been asking to go shoot, so we took a ride down to Teneroc range in lakeland yesterday to get some range time. Here are a few pics.

Brandon shooting his remington 597 .22

His new spikes tactical t-shirt that he had to have the other day …lol

Holding his first target

His second session.

He did not shoot my ar this time but says he is ready next time we go. Anyone else have the rem. 597 ?? The rifle itself seems preety good but the mags just suck!! The so called 10 rd mags jam up if you load more than 6-7 rds in them. I have 3 mags, 2 metal and one plastic and they all do it. Tried putting some lube in there and it helped a little but still hangs up. P.I.T.A. !!!
Thanks guys,
S.M.

Great pics, great memories and great skill sets to teach !

Your SON is beeming in those pics.

He will remember those moments for life as I have, when my Dad did the same…

Thanks for sharing.

Good stuff!

awesome! i have an 11 yr old who is totally engrossed in little league baseball as well.he’s in the same boat as your son in that he has shot a pistol on a couple of occasions but nothing serious.i’m gonna get him to the range very shortly to teach him the basic’s/foundation and my number one, safety.we have a boy scout trip coming up where they’re going to teach the boys to shoot rimfire rifles but i wanna make sure we get in one range day to drill the safety aspect in.shooting is such a great family sport.hell,my father and me savor every range day we get!we’re actually taking the lav operators course together on june 6-7.we cant wait!!

That’s awesome! Great memories. And baseball rocks! Congrats on that homerun!

Now, seriously, get him a better scope, assuming he learned to use the irons first, of course!

                                                    dog

Great pics and story. I can’t wait to have a son one day and do the same with him.

Lots of dryfire as you probably know, with centerfire guns. Dryfiring a rimfire breaks the firing pin. (probably don’t want to over do dryfire, gets boring)
Your very lucky. My son has no interest.

Awesome job sandman! Be sure to check out the Junior USA Shooting Team patch program, he can shoot for a rifle patch with his Rem 597

Great stuff!!

Thanks for the comments guys. It was a great day for me even though I did not get to shoot that much. First time my son really wanted to go shooting with me and I think he is hooked now. He asked me last night if we are going again next sunday. So I guess I have a new shooting partner:D The R.O. told me they have a club/competitions for .22 shooters of all ages so I guess we need to practice more. I will most likely get rid of that scope, it came with the rifle. Just a cheap 2-7 power no-name scope. I might have to upgrade to a better rifle for him.

Looking forward to next sunday,

S.M.

That looks great. Some real nice shooting.

Mine is only 5, but he’s getting there…

Very cool man. He shoots really good to. So does it make you mad when he out shoots you…hehehe. Sorry I had to say.

Seems like all I did is fill mags and change targets for him !! He got a kick out of me handing him mags so he could just shoot. B.T.W. guys, he knocked a 2-run homer last night in a close game !! He is my hero on the baseball diamond :D:D

1 Proud dad here,
