TLR-1 vs. X200/300

Can anyone give the pros and cons of the TLR-1 and the X-200/300, just help push me one way or the other.

I would take an insight m3x or m6x over a streamlight… I based my decision on tolerances especially submersion and overall output. It would be a toss up between an insight and a surefire

here’s a good start, ref rob_s post (#60) on page three of thread. hope this helps…

Having used them all I have found I like the Surefires the best for one simple reason. No matter which hand you use, activation is the same with the Surefire. With the others strong hand and weak hand is an opposite movement to activate.

We had a huge thread on this here somewhere not too long ago. might be hard to find with the search limitations. It inspired me to write this. Let me see if I can find it.

ETA:
Actually, not hard to find at all. Search for “x300” in the title and it was the first hit.

The economics of the T-1 are a valid argument to be sure, but I prefer the switch of the X300 enough to pay for them out of my own pocket.

Matt,

What application are you going to use the light for? Are you looking at use on a long gun or a handgun? Are you going to use it for LE general duty, LE SWAT, concealed civilian carry, home defense, combination of several?

I have several X200/300/400 and am just a civilian who uses them for concealed carry (Glock) and home defense (Glocks and carbines). For me the ability to control these devices with the excellent Surefire DG-11 remote switch on the Glocks is a big plus. When I pick up the Glock, and take a normal firing grip, the light/laser(depending on the device and mode) comes on. I don’t have to remember to take a separate action to activate it. I see this as a good thing for me but I can see that it would not be good for folks in other situations, ie military or LE in some situations.

FWIW, I don’t think a contoured remote switch is available for the TLR-1/2 series. I do understand that the Insight m3x/M6x series of lights and light/lasers are available with a contoured remote switch, the CFL-400 series (similar to the Surefire DG series), for certain types of handguns.

Correct…
The CFL-400 series is the basic remote switch and is available for a variety of handguns including Glock, Sig, XD and Beretta,FN, CZ,Walther, 1911, S&W etc…there is an X series version and an M series version. They have 2 different kinds of contoured remote switches.
There is also the CFL-200 series of remote pressure switches for a variety of applications inlcuding pistols, rifles and shotguns…
It would be a toss up between Insight M3X/M6X or the Surefire X300/X400 although I think insight can be had for around half the price of the surefire but just as rugged… Either way…you CANNOT go wrong.

I have a couple of tlr-1’s and tlr-2’s and just bought my first x300. I always shied away because i thought equal product for a major price difference.

not even close the x300 is a far superior built piece of equipment. I’ll be buying those going forward.

Remote switches can be had for the TLR lights too:

I have both. While on paper they are almost identical, the TLR1 being slightly better even, in reality the X300 gives you much more usable light and throws much further. I will continue to use both and feel that both work for a HD gun, however if I buy another handgun light it will be another X300.

FWIW, the newer TLR-1s with the C4 led not only have more output, but the switch is also improved. It is a little stiffer and the two points on either side are a little longer and easier to manipulate.

I personally not care for the push-button momentary option on the Surefire for handguns, but like it for long guns.

When OMB Express has the TLR on sale (like last weekend) you can buy three for the price of the SureFire…

I would compare the Insight Procyon Vs Surefire before the TLR. I’m very happy with the Procyon, especially its strobe feature.

The TLR-1 of a year or so ago were 80 lumens. The current C4 iteration is 135 lumens and has a good throw. I like the rocker switch for Handguns and carbines. I just got 2 more from Botach at 89.95 less the 15% stimulus discount, that makes them 76.46 each. Dollar for dollar there is no comparison. I found the Procyon to be lacking in output compared to the Streamlight. Surefire makes outstanding lights, I just have trouble justifying the $$.

We use the M3X for our Glock on our team pistols here. While it was decent light in '06, it is far surpassed now by the TLR-1 or the Sure Fire X300.

For one, the only holster options such, just plain suck.

The DevGru wanna-be squeezy switch sucks on the X lights, wears out very quickly.

Anyway. The X300 puts of far more light than the TLR-1s I have seen, but I haven’t seem the “C4” models yet.

That being said, if the C4s are anywhere near the throw ow the X300 then the X300 will likely not be worth three times the price that Streamlight is asking for it’s product.
