sounds like a tiny bit of drama
My second SBR is built on one of these. The only “issue” (for the lack of a better word) I had was that you had to do some filing inside the magazine well so that the magazine would drop free.
When I first got it I thought it was out of spec because none of mags would drop free. I contacted TKS and they promptly called me back and explained that they engineered their receivers so that it had extra material inside the magazine well to do just that. I was told that this was at the request of their targeted customers (governments, military, etc) who did not subscribe to dropping mags when performing reloads (just like the original NMFL Glock mags).
I was told that I should carefully hand file these tabs down, constantly checking the mags. I did just that over a couple of evenings while watching TV until all my mags (including the PMags) dropped free. I have not had any type of issue since and have around 5,000-rounds through it with an LWRC 10.5-inch upper. I even used it in a VTAC Carbine 1.5 course last month.
I bought this receiver because I liked the idea of a built-in trigger guard. Using carbines that have the regular trigger guards in these 2 or 3-days classes usually result in some serious blistering on the base of my middle finger. I hve not had any such issues with this lower. Personally, I have no problems recommending their lowers plus I have had nothing but excellent Customer Service the only time I have had to deal with them. JM2CW.
thnx for the info.
The manufacturers solution was to file down the anodized finish?
Sorry, but either they’re lying to you or they’re the stupidest folks on the planet.
The absolute last thing you want to do it break that finish.
Not to mention that the whole reason given is a load of BS from the start. A guy doing a tactical reload will retain control of the magazine while dropping it. Otherwise, you want it out of the rifle ASAP so you can stick in another with equal haste.
The whole thing sounds like a BS story weaved to cover for an engineering failure.
