If YOUR NAME isn’t on the NFA form, you don’t own it.
LEO’s can get a stamp on their own with their name on the form. I have in fact seen personally owned and registered NFA items in NY. Sadly, even with an exemption, we get treated the same as civilians do in NFA friendly states i.e. CLEO’s refuse to sign. Whether a trust is possible… Who knows? But it is legal for individual officers to own their own items.
Ive got an 07/SOT in NY and the NYSP specifically called to say that I cannot shoot anything NFA off my manufacturing premises unless its for a demonstration to LE/MIL or I would be arrested.
I Love NY!
If your name is on the form, it is yours.
And I hate to break it to you, cops are civilians.

You are simply civilians who have accepted a public trust and a sometimes difficult occupation.
Agreed
We are not exempt from Federal or State laws on firearms ownership. We put our pants on just like anyone else. In some states that still follow (or have had laws simliar for years) the AWB, we are allowed to own “prohibited” firearms (Title I “assault rifles”) or high capacity LEO magazines. However, the moment we are no longer an active LEO, we must sell those items or be charged with a crime (Kalifornia comes to mind as one of those states).
Just like any regular joe, I cannot own a post 86 class III firearm just because of what I do for a living.
Now back to talking about SIG 552’s and the people I will hate for being able to buy one…![]()
In my opinion, everyone should be allowed to own NFA items, including new manufacture machine guns. That’s one exemption no one has. NY is ridiculous enough as it is and practically everything I own would have to be liquidated or I can just move to a free state. Sucks but we have to deal with what we have. Anyhow, you can hate me Alaska. I’m definitely picking one up.
Ok, so I sold one of my Nighthawks and I am seriously building funds for the possibility of a 552. How does someone get a hold of this guy because the website does not work. Has anybody got his contact info?
I’m pretty sure he took the website down because he’s not ready to accept orders and was getting bombarded. He doesn’t even know exactly how much they will sell for yet.
How many rifles are we looking at?
I have no idea.
I contacted him almost two weeks ago and hopefully mine will be ready for me soon but no set date or price yet as far as I know. Best bet is to try to contact him through the site and hope you get one.
Last time I tried the site was not working to even contact him. Do you happen to have his email address still?
I believe his phone number is listed under the contact section of his site. I would suggest trying him there. I don’t seem to have the address saved anywhere but I originally contacted him through the previous website and he got back to me fairly quickly. If the site isn’t working then try the phone. The site is brand new so he’s probably having it worked on and functionality isn’t complete yet.
It is good that you bought a demilled parts kit. You now have spares, including a spare barrel. You should be able to sell off the parts you no longer need and recoup some of your costs. I would keep the barrel, gas tube, gas regulator, bolt group, return spring and return spring guide rod. You can sell the lower and other components and make back most of the price of your kit.
As for SBR, it should be good to go. I plan on filing a form-1 and removing the faux can on mine.
UPDATE for those that are interested. I did talk to to Roger, these were imported for a department pre 98 who then sold them to him. He will have about 60 of them with the worst being in about 95% condition.
These will be title 1 guns with permanent fake suppressors, however, if you decide to SBR one you will still need to make them 922r compliant and that means replacing 7 parts. He ran thru the list with me and there does not seem to be anything too difficult to swap with a 556. They are also very expensive at $3995, but are the only semi 552’s in the states that I know of and I think a good investment.
He is about 1 hour from me so when I pick mine up I will post some pics. Should be a couple of weeks.
Hey Sig. Glad you got a hold of him. I spoke to him as well and he mentioned first shipments start in a couple of weeks so it should be soon. Did Roger explain that they don’t need US parts until you try to sbr them? I wasn’t sure exactly what the deal was with compliance parts. I’m itching to get a hold of mine and can’t wait. $3995 is what he quoted and, while that is a big chunk for one firearm normally, considering how rare these are I’d go for more than a couple if I had the dough.
Oreaopla and Sigmax- PM’s sent.
Right if you leave them title 1 then you don’t need to worry about 922r. $3995 is a whole lotta money, especially in this economy and I do not think these will be moving with any quickness now matter how rare they are. I was tempted to wait and see if the price does not drop and for anything less then a full swiss 552 and I would, but if there are only 60 seems like it would be a good investment if I even wish to sell it years from now.
I’m in, can’t wait.
I would tend to agree since spending 4K for a firearm just by itself would be borderline crazy for me. In this case, considering how long I’ve been searching and missing good opportunities to pick up originals, I think it’s definitely worth it to pick up one if not two. If SigArms produced the correct rifle in superior swiss form, I would have purchased one already. Even the [HIGHLY UNLIKELY] rumor of new swiss imports won’t change my mind since I doubt the swiss or their US counterparts will allow what would essentially kill the US sig to come back to the US. Obviously it would not be labeled a SIg 55X but it would be worth it considering the savings. Again, I doubt the swiss or sigarms would allow it since few would continue to purchase the US made version, even if the import carried a moderate premium. I don’t plan on selling mine as I see my total collection as a nice inheritance for my child/children. I’m definitely in for this…
