Thoughts on the Burris compact Red dot??

Looks like a fairly sturdy and ultra compact sight with the picatinny mount. Anybody try them?

Never tried a burris red dot but have used there mounts and there good quality.

Don’t know what model you are looking at, however I was looking at the new Burris 3x32 AR Tactical Sight, not much out there on it yet. They are $300.00 bucks, so the extra $150.00 for an aimpoint w/ a known track record will be my purchase.

The one I am thinking of is called the fastfire or fastfire II. I thought that this sight MAY be a good part time sight that could easily be swapped to a couple other handy dandy rifles (leverguns) I often shoot…

Ooooooo I like that, I have an 1894 in 44 mag.
That would make for a nice quick handling little carbine. Keep us informed on how it works for you if you go this route.

I will be sure to post a report if I get one. I imagine it would spend more time on either a Marlin 336, 1894 or 1895… Optics planet has fairly decent prices on them so I may just have to pull the trigger…

I bought one from OpticsPlanet for about $175, delivered.

Alas, it hasn’t been used yet as it is on a Bully Barrel I got for my S&W Model 41 to use with a suppressor. Since the can is still waiting on Form 4 approval, it hasn’t been to the range yet.

But so far it looks like a decent sight for the money. In other words, I didn’t open the box and immediately think, “Oh shit, I got ripped off.”

I have one on an offset mount with the Burris protective ear mount on my SPR and it works so far so good. HOwever it hasnt been used for more than range play and not in different light settings to test how it adjusts. Also one major thing i dont like is that it has to be removed to change out the batts.

Shihan:

Have you had to change the batteries out yet? I read that there is some sort of cover for the sight and when installed the unit goes pretty much into a sleep mode.

Thanks for the replies ya’ll

Maybe a person would want to wait for the fastfire II. This looks like an improvement of the fastfire since the new one is supposed to be waterproof, which couldn’t hurt.

I have one on an AK in a Irondot from Larue. I really like it, but I dont like that it is not waterproof. I would wait for the Fastfire ll or a Trijicon RMR. I really want to try the RMR.

Water PROOF is a definite need for the use I envision. i appreciate the tip.

For the money, I am probably going to order one for my Spikes 22 gun. I don’t expect Aimpoint ruggedness but a 3x RDO for under 300 would feel at home on the 22 and I don’t expect it to replace my LT/T-1 and LT/ML3 combo anytime soon.

I was checking one out here in Houston and it looked like it would hold up for my purposes, mainly on my AK’s and on my AR.

I’m not so sure about using it on my FAL or CETME at this point, but time and testing will tell.

It looked rugged enough for $300, though an Aimpoint is probably not shaking in it’s boots!

Nope haven’t changed the batts yet and haven’t really used it that much. It does go to sleep with the cover on and it has a on off switch but I MUCH like probably everyone an optic tht you can change the batts on with the optic still mounted,

When is this due on the market?

I noticed that OpticsPlanet upped the price on the FastFire not too long ago.

I’ve had good luck so far with the Burris Fast Fire. Very light, seems as durable[ or more so] than other sights of this type, and they have held zero for me without any problems. The biggest downside I see so far is that you have to take the sight off the mount to change batteries, and will need to at least confirm zero, if not re-zero after that. I don’t know…I haven’t had to change batt’s yet. The sight has a on/off switch on the side, and has a form fitting cover, that when placed on the sight[ if its “on”] puts the sight in sleep mode.

My understanding from the BURRIS guys at the shot show is that the FF2 is basically the same sight, with a waterproof seal around the body of the sight. I have the older version, and use them for various non critical applications…plinking guns, inside HD carbines, and back up to the backup sights on AR’s;) . II may get a FF2 down the road, but so far the originals are working fine for me. I think they are very useful, very lightweight, easy to use sights. YMMV:)

i have one of these… for a while microsoft was giving money back for purchases made on certain buy it now ebay items. might still be going on, but it was very cheap with that offer.

larue makes mounts for it too.
