(The M84 Gas Buster charging handle with the NEW Combat latch for the M-16 / AR15. The new Combat latch is 17% larger then the military latch plus has a flat rippled front, for better grip. the gas buster charging handle is a safety device with ergonomic design that deverts harmful gases, oil and dirt away from the shooter. )
Thats a really nice design. The older big latch was way too smooth for my personal tastes. I had problems operating it with gloves on or slippery sweaty hands.
Im currently using a Badger Ordinance Tactical latch generation 2. The generation 1 just didnt do it for me. Too much latch. It tended to get caught on gear more than i would have liked.
Im also thinking im probably going to swap out my generation 2 latch simply because its not swept forward like that PRI latch is. The generation 2 latch has an aggressive texture on it but its not swept forward enough to ensure a positive grip.
The actual gas buster charging handle is awesome. Its beefy and it does work.
i remember a million years ago during BRM qualification in OSUT… i’d cleaned up my stick right and figured “hmm… maybe a little extra wang-grease wouldn’t be a bad thing. wanna make sure i dont get any malfunctions today!” and basically emptied the bottle all over the BCG and inside the upper.
The first target popped up, and the next 39 were all hazy blurs of momentary movement somewhere in the distance.
Hmmmmmmmm… been shooting these things for 25 years and never used anything but the standard charging handle. This looks like a solution to a problem that does not exist.
You are correct, the Gas Buster charging handle is for suppressed guns and makes very little difference on a non-suppressed gun. I run standard CH’s with PRI big latch levers installed.
It does seem like alot but the PRI gas buster handles are really and i mean really nicely made.
Standard charging handles feel a little chintzy in the hand. The PRI handle feels like a finely crafted piece of work that you could run over with a car.
I shot a short qualification course last week and my eyes were definitely getting blasted with gas on my non-suppressed 10.5", shooting federal brown box XM193.
I have the PRI GB handle in route from Rainier Arms as I am going to suppress this weapon with an M4-2000, but it seems like the handle will help in the meantime while I’m waiting on the Form4.
