Thoughts and Opinions on First Build

Hi am getting interested in building a recon type rifle in a few month this will be my first if you can call it a build more like a put together. But here is what I had in mind so far I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I am missing something or should add anything. This rifle will need to work every time I squeeze the trigger not necessarily SHTF gun but … has to work either punching paper or punching flesh.

Upper

-BCM MID-Length w/ Daniel Defense 12.0 Lite Rail

-BCM or LMT bolt carrier group whichever I get a hold of first would prefer the BCM though.

-BCM charging handle w/ Badger Tac latch.

-Larue combo Optic/Mount Trijicon Accupoint 1.25-4x24 w/ Amber recticle (purchasing from larue if someone has a cheaper suggestion for this optic with quality mount please advise)

-Troy BUIS front/rear

Lower

-Whatever quality lower I can find these days, Spikes, CMMG, Lmt, anything at a reasonable price, what is reasonable these days right.

-G&R Tactical LPK opting for ambidextrous safety if possible

-Rock River Arms NM 2 stage trigger

-Magpul Miad

-LMT Sopmod

-CAR buffer

-Maybe a Redimag, depends on how heavy the thing is up to this point.

  • Vickers Victory Sling, some mount for the rail.

  • Lots of ammo, (wishful thinking)

Sounds good right, the only choice I am unsure about is the optic, hearing mixed reviews about it so I guess it is a personal preference thing I’ll see if I like it or not. Any advise is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

I would use a heavy buffer and not worry about the ambi safety.

Great setup. Any changes are a question of taste. I’d go with a Magpul CTR or Vltor Emod stock. Unless you need to customize the pistol grip for hand size, I’d go with the Magpul MOE or a CAA G27 grip. I know most of CAA stuff is junk, but their G27 grip is really comfortable. I’d also get a Magpul trigger guard.

If you are going with the RRA 2-stage I recommend the one that is tuned by WOA. That’s what I am running in my rifle and it’s a great improvement on an already great trigger. I cant comment on the optic as I run a DMS-1 in a SPR-E. The larue mount is top notch and I can only assume anything from Trijicon will be as well.

If it needs to work every time, stick with a USGI trigger group, or if you have to have a 2 stage go with a Geissele or similar. The other components sound GTG though. Good luck finding them though! Enjoy your build!

Looks like your going to need a gas block. I went with a DD gas block to match my DD 12" Lite Rail. If it all falls in place for you it sounds like a nice piece…and a little bit like my newest one!

Skip the RRA 2-stage.

shave the gas block to fit under the rail.

Check out the new Trijicon true 1-4x Accupoint over the one you have listed now.
