We have some ex-military vehicles in the motorpool now. They’re in pretty poor, heavily worn condition.
I was checking out the blackout lights while driving at night. With no mil experience, I’m guessing the little white/red blackout lights were for convoy use (they work well). But what about the hooded headlight, is this supposed to actually light up the road somewhat while moving? Even at less than 5mph, it didn’t seem to illuminate anything at all in the vehicle’s path; Heck I couldn’t even tell if it was on. If I got out and stood in front of the grill, I could probably hold a map up to the lamp and read it, but that was it.
For those who had military veh experience, does this sound normal? Maybe the wrong wattage bulbs?
Without them, you can only see 5-10 feet in front of the vehicle on a low illumination night.
On a night with high illumination, it’s just as easy to drive with out the lights.
No NODs, is that what they are for? Some vehs have IR headlamps already in addition to these hooded things. I looked under the hood and the small portion of clear lens is quite pitted and dirty, maybe thats the problem. Oh well, thanks for your help!
It gives out enough light on a dark night to be able to see with some sort of Night Vision device while not having a glare being able to be seen by the enemy.
