I have completely deconstructed and then built up my 16" ar. Most everything is new, including the rail. I had a weapon light on the previous incarnation of his rifle and it was mounted at 10 o’clock via a moe hand guard. It was about where I wanted it. If I could get it to 10:30 or 11 that would be better. I am thinking about the thorntail or sbr, but I am hoping I can not see it or the mount out of my 1-4 vortex pts. Does anyone know if this will work for me?
I also have the vltor/tango down bipod and I would really be happy if i could mount that without any problems too.
Forgot to add the rail is a noveske nsr, with only 4 slot rail sections in the front.
Let’s presume for the moment that you WILL be able to see it.
In 1x, as with any other 1x, it won’t matter, if you’re focusing on the target like you’re supposed to be.
Magnified, it’ll be so close-aboard and inside the focal plane that it’ll blur to transparency, just like a fixed FSB does under magnified optics. The only people that are truly affected by this are the ones who vapor-lock on the blur, instead of what they’re supposed to be doing with the thing
Perfect, I’ve never had a setup like this so that helps with my decision. Thanks
Is there another mount I could, should be looking into?
I’ve got an IWC Radial on the VTAC tube of one gun, and a IWC/Haley Thorntail on a railed gun, and they each gave me a half-chub when I discovered that I could put my hand on the forend where I wanted to without interfering with anything else…so I’m biased, but…
…NO!
The IWC stuff answers almost all the mail in regard to light setups, regardless of hand or remote-switch activation.
Another really good, minimalist option that I’ve always enjoyed used to be called Danger Close Consulting mounts, now sold under the name Lo Pro Products: http://store.greygrouptraining.com/LOWPRO-FLASHLIGHT-MOUNT.html
EDIT: …though that might be more of a remote-only option, in your case…? There’s a stickied thread in Lights/Lasers that has an indescribable number of photos of light arrangements, plus ones specific to Thorntail and/or Dropwing.
If your gun’s not a precision-specific setup, forget the bipod. It’s frippery if it’s not for a bench/belly gun, DM or similar gun. If you’re mounting a bipod anyway, put it at the front end where it belongs.
The bipod would only be on there at the range but I can use my bag as well. It will eventually find its way to my 6.5 Grendel dmr but I do not have the upper or barrel for it yet.
I just don’t like messing with a setup once I get one that works for me.
