I predict it will have the same rousing success found with their PX4 series and the “improvement” and update to the 92 series, that they were dumb enough to call the “90-two.”
So it took them > 30 years to produce an answer to the Glock 17? This pistol looks like an answer to the HK VP9, Walther PPQ, S&W M&P, Springfield XDM, etc. I’m sure they will get some police and possibly military contracts out of it, if the price point is right.
Hardly groundbreaking and hideous looking IMO. At least they had enough sense to move toward a striker considering its 2015. That being said, I believe the company is capable of producing and bringing to market better designs, I guess I just have to question why we’ve yet to see any…
To add, I still don’t understand why no one has come up with a gun with the same (or very similar) exterior dimensions and capacity of the Glock 19. It seems everyone goes from sub-compact straight to fullsize without realizing one of the best selling handguns worldwide lies in between.
I think I’ll stick to the 92 series and their shotguns. This does nothing for me that other platforms don’t do already. With 92Gs back out this has even less interest to me.
As someone who owns many G19s, I’d never buy one of these.
But I don’t think it looks bad. I actually like it.
Still, it is interesting that they are like 20 years late to the party.
Its not ugly as far as modern service pistol goes but it certainly doesn’t have the lines Beretta is known for.
I could give two S(*# about how a service handgun looks.
Hey, I hope this is the top-drawer handgun Beretta is capable of. My suspicion is that its ergonomics will be superior to the Glock (not hard) and in line with the PPQ and VP9. I will give it a look.

I think they made a mistake in not sticking with the 92 mag.
I think the combo of price point and trigger will determine how accepted this new pistol becomes. Looks, capacity, and size seem to be standard fare.
It’s ugly but it does look functional.
Low bore axis, decent grip, plenty of cocking serrations.
If the trigger is nice and it runs, it will be something that could sell here if they don’t flub the marketing.
To the OP, the PX4 is a very common LE and MIL handgun all over Mexico. They carry 'em, but I don’t stop and talk guns with the Fuerza Civil or Policia Federal down there. Much.
FN did with the FNS-9 and squeezed 2 more rounds in a grip thats slimmer and pretty much the same length

The writeup appears to state that a tool is required to decock for field strip. Special tools for simple maintenance may indicate an overly complex less user friendly design

Yes, that is what I thought. It looks like the Arsenal Strike One, but it sounds like a more complicated and less field friendly design = probably not a good combination.

I would sooner Beretta market an affordable 92G-SD or 92G Vertec than make another Glock style gun of which the market is flooded.
The only one I would entertain buying would be the VP9. Otherwise, what is the point. I don’t know how supplanting Brand X with Brand Y will help if Brand X already has a handy headstart
As far as looks go, it is all that much different than the Walther PPX http://www.waltherarms.com/ppx/ ? And while that’s not as accepted as the PPQ, I just don’t think looks will be the thing that turns folks away. That said, I still don’t understand how the Beretta Neos sells…to me, that’s a goofy looking handgun.
I think, if the trigger is very good, it will be a winner. Hard to beat Beretta’s rep for reliable handguns after 30 years of the M9 as the US military’s service pistol…
I too am baffled why they wouldn’t design it to accept 92 mags… and besides, it doesn’t seem to bring anything new to the table besides the adjustable sight system (which I imagine is controlled by loosening and tightening screws). They also speak of a streamlined snag-free draw or something, but look at those pylons on the side of the slide! I can see those easily catching on something during a draw, quite possibly causing more than just a small hang-up. My biggest question is… Why? I don’t see anything revolutionary enough to set it apart in any way from any other double-stack poly wonder gun. The only way that this pistol will be successful is if it is 100% dead nuts reliable, a tack-driver, and priced to compete with the Walther PPX. I am thoroughly unimpressed.
Mags are a high margin, low cost, accessory. I’m sure it was more of a business decision than anything else. But I definitely agree, it would have been a draw for current M9/M92 owners.
