So I sold a Banshee PC with the Esstac KYWI 5.56 pouches mounted on it because I was looking for something a little lower profile. turns out everything I wanted is now out of stock.
I was looking at the Velocity LWPC - very low profile, slick front with a kangaroo pocket that can hold 3 mags but also has the Swift-clip system to add something like Haley’s rig when I want to jock up.
perfect for my needs but guess what? - completely unavailable in any color or size except from the manufacturer which, of course, wants $30 more than anywhere else it was sold. what’s up with that???
next thought, was the similar but more built up and expensive Mayflower APC. same situation. I can’t find a S/M Multicam anywhere for less than full price. what’s going on?..
so, any recommendations on a low profile PC similar to the two mentioned above?
May not be what you’re looking for, but I’ve been a big fan of the ITW FastMags. I’ve used both the belt versions and the MOLLE versions. IMHO, easier to insert/remove mags the the Eagle FBs.
This is why I have learned not to sell off something until I have its replacement. Saves headaches and hassles like this.
You may want to look at BFG because if you are looking for low profile open top, retention pouches their Ten speed pouches may be of interest. Light weight, low profile, and they retain pretty well. I know several who run them as pouches on low profile rigs where they can quickly strip out the mags and throw a chest rig over top. Downside, reinserting a mag is a pain in the ass. I still think for retention and being about to easily reinserting the mags the Esstac KTWIs are the best, like them for their pistol mags pouches as well.
As far as PCs go, patience may be wise in this case, catch a good sale for what you want, and save yourself money that way. Hell, I picked up my LMAC last year for like $120 shipped from BFG.
the PC’s I mentioned use Kangaroo pouches with inserts to hold three 5.56 mags. Probably not very fast but I use a Fastmag on my belt for immediate reloads.
the LWPC is slick and would need something like the Haley D3 rig or one of the Mayflower Placards to attach to the swift clips. I was hoping to avoid adding stuff to the front as this PC utilizes 10 Speed-like elastic on the inside of the cummerbund if I needed more than the 3 mags + 1 on the belt + 1 in the gun. the C-bun has PALS for FAK, etc… this would be a great low profile rig but without the Placard clip-in, nothing can be added to the front.
thinking out loud now, the Mayflower APC, with molle already across the front would work excellently with the BFG 10 Speed mag shingle, to hold mags, TQ, etc., and being low profile when I don’t. this would save the cost of the Haley D3 or other rigs.
I am a big fan of the Fastmag too but they won’t stack side by side on a flat surface like the front of a vest or PC. I had two on my belt and because they were mounted on a curved surface, they worked fine. I later decided I didn’t need two 5.56 mags on my belt and am down to one now. good gear but being hard surface they can be noisy bumping into things…
the Eagle FB is a good mag too, easy re-insertion but retention was limited to friction. the Esstac KYWI is the only other cloth covered mag pouch (that I know of) with a Kydex insert for easy re-insertion and incredible retention. I even trust them in the shorty version to securely hold a 30rd mag…
It has the webbing to attach clips. As well as various options for the front kangaroo flap. The KYWI’s are my favorite mag pouches hands down though. Tyr also has some mag pouches similar to the KYWI’s as well as ones similar to TACO’s.
I got one in coyote from their shop when it first came out. Its their version of the Banshee with a mesh interior and without the shoulder padding. It also has a completely velcroed interior kangaroo pouch if you prefer stuffing mags in there. I don’t use it as much as my Mayflower LPAC since its not as low profile but I still recommend the Aspis, great carrier.
thanks. initially looked suitable but looks like it has the same problem (to me) as the Banshee - shoulder straps have buckles right where I like to put the butt of the gun. back to the drawing board…
Thats weird, the Aspis doesn’t have buckles at all. Shoulder pads are an upgrade option for it. In fact I believe when they came up with the Aspis they removed the thicker shoulder pads for the very reason you mentioned.
I recently picked up an SKD pig brig which may fit your needs. I’ve only spent a few hours wearing it, but so far I’m impressed, and I like the scalability.
I had the the VS SCARAB for a for weeks and it is specically made for a kango pouch and the add on D3CR or Mayflower placards. the velcro is solid is my eyes
No experience with their low vis carrier but I have one of their PICO carriers. Solid kit. I’m in the process of integrating a D3 into it. If you remove the front pouch the Velcro is right there like the Mayflower.
It is a real deal minimulist set up. There is padding on the front and rear plate portion. Shoulder wraps are simple and minimum. cummerbund is sheer if you only plan just for plates. I’m planning to get another and run a 2 mag kango pouch in the future
