This is a sin against us all

I agree! Why the fuck would they ruin 03’s when they could simply make clones you could use if you wanted a wall hanger.

That should fall under the don’t melt down your nickels rules…

Blasphemy! Burn the heretic!

I think if you read the ad, it says they were already made into drill rifles by Uncle Sam…I’m guessing this was done some time ago, probably right after WWII. At that point in time, no one cared, They (the Govt) had 100’s of thousands of 'em. For years, they were sold as cheap surplus, all these people did was add a few more welds to a already welded up rifle…Still it is a shame…I’m lucky, I live about 3hrs S.E. of the CMP north store, I was lucky to get in on the last of the '03’s and '03A3’s they had a few years back…I got one of each…They are still quite accurate,

…and as bad as that is, the following still applies:

Not for Sale in Puerto Rico, NY, MN, WI, KS, CT, MA, or CA

Sad & ironic.

The receivers and barrels were already ruined by heat and welding when turned into a drill rifle by the DOD. Sarco just cut out some of the receiver so that an FFL was not needed. Those who refurbish and shoot drill rifles are gamblers. For 419 I pitty the fool that buys one. It is the wise purchaser of an 03 or 03A3 to look very carefully for weld removal and color changes.

$419.00 for a welded up drill rifle!!..I paid $400 apeice for my '03 and '03A3 from the CMP, and both of these showed little use, the barrels gaged near new, (a “1” on either end of the bore)…I picked them both off the rack myself… You’re right about keeping an eye out for former drill rifles that have been made to shoot… They’re out there, and idiots will buy them…That’s one good thing about the CMP…you’l never see a drill rifle sold as anything but a drill rifle…and the ones they had for sale were beyond saving for anything but maybe the stock sets…

Perfect for someone too young for a working rifle. If you’re too young for a working rifle you can’t lift this gun.

A waste of a good rifle. Not that i could or would buy one of these abominations.

Find a gunstore or something to at least sell off the receivers for projects or something. Jeez, I’d love to own a 1903, and Im sure there are plenty of people that would pay 419 for one without the shitty weld jobs Im sure they slap on.

The receivers are junk because of the welding. They welded the barrel to the receiver and welded a plug in the barrel. I think that probably ruined the 03 via a new heat treat.

You misunderstood me, I meant if someone had that many m1903 around to make it profitable to weld on, even if the barrels where shot they could sell the guns to a gun store or even on consignment to people who wanted a project gun. I would be more apt to do that than destroy them with welds. Even if it was less profitable. But no I didn’t mean try to salvage the ones that have already been ATF’d up

Assuming these were worthless to begin with, if they were cheaper, they could be a fun toy for kids, if kids are even allowed to have toy guns anymore.

Turn it into a cap gun or something.

$420 for a hung of useless steel and wood is rediculous…

Ive been to that store. Its only a few miles from where my GF lived. Someone told me they had a great selection of AR when I was looking for my first. I walked in, nothing but old as non working guns such as the one in the link and Nazi memorabilia. Wierd people in that store.
