yay or nay? and why?
Why dont YOU tell US why?
+1.
I’m a DD fan but if the Colt works for you, What do you believe you’ll gain?
What they said.
Like trading a chevy truck for a gmc truck
Do it if you are getting a sweet package deal, otherwise I’ll echo what everyone else has said…Why?!
Nay say I. Why? Because I’m a Colt fanboy and if yours works well don’t mess with a good thing.
v5 is midlength
I prefer midlength to carbine gas in a 16.
However, you’re going to take a hit dumping a gun.
You could keep it as a back up; or send it to adco and cut it to 14.7 and perm a hider/brake; still, I’d get the DD and try to avoid dumping the Colt.
Why are you asking us? I mean this seriously. You know what the Colt cost and what the potential worth is of the DD. You will be the one shooting and using it.
Years ago I learned in my own gun trading that if you trade for a minor variation you get screwed. Save your money and buy a Daniel Defense. When you can buy new Colts for around a grand I would be surprised if you got more than 700.00 real dollars on it. It’s not worth it. Then you add in the profit already on the DD and you lose big. It’s not that gun dealers are taking advantage of you, it’s that they have to make a profit to pay the bills. Most don’t give a damned about what the deal is or the firearms involved, it’s just business. Say they make 10-15% on the price of the DD, maybe the same on your Colt. What can they sale it for when a new one is a $1,000.00. You’re better off buying the DD. If you just can’t justify it sale the Colt outright then buy, just like trucks and Harleys.
I’d say go with the mid length.
You should delete your post here and submit it to “Dear Abby”.
Is this a straight-up trade? Are you trading the Colt for the DD outright, or are you trading the Colt in toward the DD (and still having to pay additional $$$)?
How is the Colt set up? Bone stock? Magpul edition? Aftermarket rail, sights, etc?
Unless you want to keep your fixed front sight, another option would be to take off the pinned front sight and use a BCM low profile set screwed gas block, add one of the new BCM rails when they come out in a few weeks (or a rail of your choice), then add a DD clamp on fixed front sight or a Magpul Pro folding front sight, whatever your preference. If you ever sell it, you can always return it to the factory configuration, and depending on their condition, sell the rail, front sight and gas block for probably a minimal loss.
I’ll second this opinion.
Buy the DD and save the Colt for when the politicians start to talk about more guns laws again, then sell it on GB for 3X the value.
Colt 6920 owner here. I shot a new DD V5 Mid (along with a BCM EAG Mid) yesterday and loved it. Either will serve you just fine. Both are top notch rifles. The DD Mid did seem to shoot a little softer and stay a little flatter for faster follow ups than my 6920. I also liked using my T1 on the DD with with no FSB in the way, and longer real estate on the Rail to get my support hand out farther.
Just playing devil’s advocate here, but isn’t this the purpose of a Forum? Where people, uninformed or otherwise, may ask a question and hope for a helpful response?
OP - As for me, I own a Colt, and a friend of mine has a DD mid-length. They both shoot fine and I would be happy with either. I’ve been a colt fan based on the 20+ years of using them in the service. They work and are effective in the right hands…especially those of a trained and determined human being. That being said, there is a reason why DD has such an awesome reputation…their torture test video is testament to its quality. It it were me….I’d save the $$ and keep the colt, and buy more ammo. Or go to a range and try shooting both (hopefully your local range has a DD for rent). That way you can decide which works best for you.
To a degree you are right. Except topics like this have been discussed many times and in the end its really pointless because the person asking is going to do whatever they decide.
In this particular instance the OP has provided no explanation as to why he is trading or considering it. We also don’t know the condition of either carbines, etc… these are things that I would want to know to make an informed decision.
What should I buy, a Colt or Daniel Defense?
Without any information from me, its pretty hard to give a good answer to my question. But, if I reword my query and elaborate, it becomes easy to answer:
I am buying a new rifle to use for Home Defense and have narrowed my choices down to the Colt 6920 or the DD M4V5. I don’t plan on putting anything on rails, and I will be using iron sights at first. I like the Magpul style stocks more than the Rogers Superstock because I feel like I get a better cheekweld with them. I like to shoot with my support hand extended forward as far as possible. I also really like flared magwells. Can you guys help me figure out which rifle might be best for me before I make the purchase?
