Thinking of an AK...calling Templar and Thekatar

Alrighty,
about 10 years ago, I had a Norc AK and like a fool I sold it. Anyway, I figure I should replace it. I mean, doesn’t every collection need at least one AK? Anyway, I’m considering a Lancaster “Red Russian” http://ww.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=462

a RAK Classic (from Atlantic) http://ww.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=229

or a Henderson Ak-103R “Afghan” http://shop.hendersondefense.biz/product.sc?categoryId=4&productId=1

I don know I want a quality piece and I don’t want a shoddy slapped together rifle. Which would you recommend as being the better quality weapon.

Thanks
R

I would go with the 2nd Russian classic.it is a ishmash.I have owned 2 saigas i am very happ with the way it shoots .The 3rd was a kit gun I would stay away from that one (Just my .02)But Yes you are right every collection needs a AK:D

Look for another Norinco or a Poly Tech

What’s your budget?

I have Norinco 84s-3a for sale check classifieds.

I figure I can go to about $800-ish

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices. If you can get the Russian Red with an NDS receiver that is an excellent choice. I also like the Henderson “Afghan” as well.

I would go with either the Lancaster or the Khyber.

Have you considered an Arsenal, Inc. SLR-107FR?

Those Arsenals are sexy. Can a “Khyber” style triangular stock be fitted to one? I KNOW that the Arsenals are high quality. Would they be considered higher than the Lancaster or the Henderson?

Thanks
Rich

Yes you can replace the OEM buttstock with a triangle buttstock if you wish.

Thanks
Would you say the Arsenal is the “cream of the crop” still, or have things changed?

I’m not a good person to ask because 3 out of 4 of my AKs are Arsenals and the other was built by Chris Butler so I have very limited experience outside of what I own.

Personally I love Arsenals and have never had a problem with any of mine but they have had issues in the past. Canted front sights, poor finish and feed issues with the 106. But if you can find a newer 107FR I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

The Bulgarians are building some of the best AKs right now and I think if someone wants a complete, non kit, AK I think the Arsenals are the best but take my opinion with a grain of salt because I’m a little biased

I would have no problem buying a current SLR-107FR at all. Make sure that the triangular steel stock is for the older 4.5mm pin, and you can change it out in less than 2 minutes.

Thanks guys. After perusing the various auction sites, I’ve come across ones with the AK-74 style brake and some with the “elongated A2-ish” brake. How do I know which ones are more recently built?

The more recently built ones have the AK-74 style brake.

. . .

When I googled SLR-107FR

This came up! https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=11941

Thanks. Also, I found a place that has a few NIB SA-M7s (SAM-7A1, SAM-7R). What is a good price for them? Is the milled receiver really that much better/desireable. If given the choice would any of you rather have the milled vs. the stamped or is it “six of one…”?

Thanks so much guys

I’ll tell you a good price if you tell me your source…

Check your IM’s
