For whatever reason I have the bug for an SBR and silencer. However my already deficient AR experience is especially lacking in this department.
I am thinking about the following.
*BCM BHF 11.5 inch barrel. Is this a good length for the intended gun. This would be a HD/training/whatever gun. Should i go longer or shorter?
*DD Lite rail. Probably 10 inch.
*ACOG or Aimpoint Micro. I know the Micro is a better choice but I just like the ACOG dammit. :jester:
*Silencer ?? School me here guys. Hate to say this but I am looking for Value. Doesn’t have to be cheap but I don’t want to break the bank Surefire? AAC? Gemtech?.
Not sure what lower, etc I am going with but that is of secondary concern right now.
I used a BCM 11.5" as well. I also used the DD 10" lite rail. I currently have an ACOG on there as well and I like the set up.
As far as suppressors go…it’s hard to say. I am sure that the Gemtech G5 is probably good to go. I saw the titanium version at SHOT and I really liked it. I have an older AAC M4-2000 and I like it. Very little if any flash at night and it is pretty damn quiet.
Remember that you have to pay the 200.00 so don’t skimp on quality. You’re gonna pay 200.00 for a crappy 500.00 one or a 1000.00 dollar one.

What cover is that on your can? Is it a battlecloth?
I used a Noveske 10.5" SS barrel, which is probably not best for high round count suppressed shooting, but it’s what I wanted and is accurate as hell with the can off or on.
My personal preference is away from the LW barrels for suppressed shooting, but know plenty of guys who use them with zero issues.
I bought a 2006 AAC M4-2000, which is about the identical twin to the M4-1000 now. It’s a good can, and pretty damn quiet.
If I were doing a suppressor now for the 5.56 is would be the 11.5" ADCO/Ops Inc micro package. Quite honestly, the suppressed signature is enough to take the bite off and still extremely short and light. Most importantly, it’s still short.
Having shot enough critters with no hearing protection, I can say that if your adrenaline is pumping high enough, you are not going to notice the difference in the Ops micro and a full Ops can at your ear canal. They may ring later, but it’s not going to cripple you like an unmuffled 10.5" might inside a room. :bad:
The 5.56 is simply never going to be quiet, the action noise itself is loud as hell from the ejection port.
Not sure that helps, but it’s where I’m at right now. I’d rather have the manuvaerability with the shorter package than the world record quietness for a HD/CQB carbine.
Thanks guys. That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I decided to go ahead and pick up a 11.5 barrel member here. 10.5 may be better but I am on a bit of a budget. I would rather save a bit here and there and go with a better can for the reasons already mentioned.
I am leaning towards either a Noveske Lower right now or a Factory BCM SBR lower.
Last time I looked G&R had the BCM SBR lowers for $380. I think Noveske might be able to SBR one for you if you ask. It would save the engraving and fee. You should have a little wait for the paperwork to save some more coin for your upper.
The port noise in an 11.5 is definitely louder than a 14.5 or longer barrel. I never shoot my can on anything shorter than 14.5 since it hurts my right (ejection port side) ear to do so, thus it defeats the purpose of shooting with a can.
Iraqgunz’s 11.5/M4-2000 seems a bit quieter than other 11.5" supressed ARs. I think I’ve fired his without ear pro, and it didn’t seem to bother me.
I cleaned my M4-1000’s blast chamber in my ultrasonic cleaner last weekend. And after over 2000 rounds, there is no visible errosion. I’ve seen M4-2000 blast baffles that look nasty with half that number of rounds fired on a 10.5" barrel.
Thanks again for the help guys.
Having the upper built right now by Superior Firearms. I am going to use an extra Colt lower I have here for the build and decided to go with an AAC M4-1000 for the suppressor.
