I have been thinking about getting a suppressor for my AR’s.
I have been looking into several, but the YHM Phantom has a very attractive price point.
I have very little experience with sound suppressors; I have shot a friend’s AR with a Gemtech G5 on it which was OUTSTANDING to shoot, I also especially liked the ease with which it went on and off the rifle. It is an expensive suppressor though.
My main question is should I wait and save up for one of the more expensive cans such as the Gemtech or is the YHM just as good?
I’d take the YHM over the G5 any day. Make sure you get the Newer Stainless model though.
Another option is to find a dealer in your area with an M4-1000. They are 550 dollars and are functionally similar to the YHM in fast attach, but probably more durable.
DON’T, however order any can. Especially from AAC. I’m on my third month of waiting for my m4-1000. My paperwork is already approved and everything. Not to slam AAC by any means, but the only way I’d buy one of their cans again is if a dealer had it in stock. It takes too long if you have your dealer order it.
I would wait and save and buy AAC M4-1000 or M4-2000. Yes I would agree find a STOCKING dealer in the state. Right now the BATF wait is 5 - 7 weeks and as the end of the year roles around it will become longer. Remember buying two cans of the same caliber because the first one just doesn’t make the grade is really exspensive, so buy the best one you can
FWIW, after doing some research and thinking about it for while; I finally decided to go ahead and have my dealer order the YHM Stainless Phantom. I should have it in my grubby little hands by the end of October or sometime in November.
I also looked at the YHM 5.56 but I thought that it was a little heavy and the sound level was not what I wanted. Yes, I was able to hear both. My dealer could order the YHM but had a AAC M4-1000 on hand and waiting for me like a bride on her wedding night
Well, theres a dealer locally who has several cans in the store, they have a Gemtech G5 and an AAC m4-2000.
Both cans are in the $800 + range. They do not carry YHM cans.
Not sure if, after what I am hearing, I should just “take the plunge” and get one of the more expensive cans…
The M4-1000 has a slight advantage if you are sensitive to weight. Both offer about the same suppression for the $ spent, either one would be a good choice. I like the mounting system on the YHM, simple and effective. A bit bulky looking on the rifle if your into tacticool, but once the suppressor is mounted it’s all business.
I got my M4-1000 for 500.00 plus state tax so it comes out to be 560.00 plus the stamp. I would check out what your dealer charges for a transfere to him if it is 50.00 give Mark at Polite Society a call (678) 662-9395, great guy, they have m4-1000 in stock. Now saying that if your dealer would try and take you to the cross by charging say 100.00 to do a transfer do yourself a favor look for another dealer. If you live in Florida these are some dealer of AAC cans. By the way there are better cans out there other than AAC but for the money I couldn’t find one. No I don’t work for AAC or any other company I just like AAC/ GMC trucks and my 1911 by Springfield.

This is why it’s critical to try and have a live fire demo BEFORE you buy a suppressor.
Having heard my '06 M4-2000 shot side-by-side with a YHM Phantom, they were very very close to my, and everyone else’s ears.
From what I recall, they even meter fairly closely…
ETA: Looking at Rob Silver’s old testing, he had the YHM Phantom @ 134 dB suppressed and the M4-2000 @ 134.3 & 135.8. The M4-1000 is supposedly indentical in baffle design, so it stands to reason it would meter similarly…
In the end, it’s what your ear likes that matters though. If you are happy with the M4-1000, then we’re happy for you.
I just pulled those off of AAC web page, sorry for the confusion wanted the gentleman to realize that Florida has a large amount of dealers and should not limit himself to his local dealer if he is not a stocking dealer of the item he wants.
SHIVAN,
I have talked to a couple of dealers about that and have not had a good feeling. Spoke to one in Texas he said he would ship it to me but would have to charge me an extra 75.00 to do it, and my dealer was going to charge me 50.00. I told the guy in Texas he was on crack and to keep his can. Had one that told me that I would have to send the money to him to do a form 4 to my dealer, I asked him wasn’t the can on a form 3 he said ya but to transfer it to my dealer it would go on a form 4. Said thank not so much. I don’t deal with people who don’t tell the truth. I think he just wanted to make an extra 200.00 of the kid. Because I know for a fact that it does not cost a thing to transfer dealer to dealer, it is just a paperwork drill.
Finding ONE Class 3 dealer (or ffl for that matter) who doesn’t have his head up his ass or who is willing to do anything extra without for a customer with out being nagged is hard… let alone 2!
I hate bugging someone for a transfer… I know it’s not the core of their business.
Must be! Some of the dealers in AZ are nice, but still Flakes! Many some are very questionable. The Armory here in AZ was the only positive dealer experience I’ve ever had, but they’re now Scottsdale Gun Club, and I don’t know if they still offer super service or what.
