i have had my acog for alittle over 6 months and honistly im becoming bored of it. i was thinkin of a 1x4 power scope like a leopold or the burris xtr that does anyone think
I think the 1-4 variables are about the best all purpose scope on an AR. Two Of my Ar’s have 1-4 Leupold’s and I really like them

Based on your text/font size, I would have to agree that it seems you’ve indeed been looking through that ACOG a bit too long my man…
i just shoot target and varmint with the rifle. i hate the eye releif on it tho i dont enjoy my nose on the charging handle when i shoot. the only problem is selling the acog ill have to take a hurting on the price to what its worth ya know
Don’t sell the ACOG, buy another AR to put the 1x4 on!
I’ve only used iron sights on my ARs, but recently wanted some form of optic for the range. I decided on a Weaver 1-3x20mm in a Wilson Combat lo-mount. It has about 3" eye relief so I don’t have to have my nose to the charging handle (I am not an operator nor do I play one on TV).
Red dots are really fast on target but I wanted some magnification for sighting in loads at 100 yds, and not spend $1000. I shoot in the daylight or “hunting” hours so illumination in an optic is not a big factor.

yeah i got a eotech and the acog both on larue quick disconnect mounts. i have them both sighted in out to 300 and they work well. but i see the new vari power scopes with the reflex sight mounted on them and they pretty much take the place of both the eotech and acog at the same time without switchin optics
what kind of Acog?

it seems that 1x4’s are becoming really popular recently, and have really great advantages over the Acog… Ohh how I wish I had my AR here 
its a ta31rco m150… the same as the ones issued. its awsome im just bored with it. and its better ur ar isnt over there shit gets beat up to much with all the sand and dust

Now that everyone has berated you to death, what kind of acog are you thinking about parting with? I call first dibs if its a TA33 with a green reticle!
I’ve never understood why so many civilians want ACOGs. I understand the “taticool” factor, but 1-4 variables make more sense to me as an all around optic.
If you’re bored with the ACOG, then by all means, buy a variable. Between the Burris, Meopta KDot, Accupoint TR24, etc., there are a lot of nice ones out there.
I agree, if I were in combat it might be another story - but I’m not - I only shoot at the range so I went with the variable. The ACOGS are sweet optics and extremely well made but they never seem to fit my specific needs very well.
Simplicity, BDC that works, very good light gathering, and a recticle that looks awesome with either of my monovision contact lens corrected eyes vs some scopes where the recticle only works for my full correction lens but not my under corrected lens. Then there is the ruggedness factor for a truck gun.
Good points, although I don’t really get BDCs for civilians either. You’ll never be shooting a person at that distance and it’s irresponsible to indiscriminately lob bullets at animals. Even predators deserve clean kills.

Let me explain “BDC’s for Civilians”, since you have stated you “dont’ really get” my man.
The ACOG has what’s called a “Red Chevron”, or other colored reticle for close in self defense situations bro.
The BDC is just an added bonus, for guys who like to go to the range and shoot longer distance steel targets, or predators (which mind you, the ACOG is GREAT at doing. Prarie dogs explode quite well at longer distances, YES, with an ACOG topped AR).
Let me explain to you why you “dont’ get it”. You see, one must first CALIBRATE and check the zero on his BDC first, and get to KNOW his equiptment FIRST, before going predator hunting. Then, the ACOG’s BDC is quite accurate, if the shooter purchased the proper ACOG for his/her bbl length.
You see, not all civilians feel their ACOG’s BDC is useless just because they aren’t going to war. (as you have basically implied).
I guarantee you it’s much easier to hit steel targets out to hundreds of yards with an ACOG’s BDC, as opposed to using a standard RDS. When you get out to those longer ranges, the ACOG shines.
Of course, when you are close in, the ACOG still works pretty well too.
I once had no problem hitting at 25-50yds (and UNDER) with the TA31 RCO M4.
I find with a magnified optic I don’t look through it at close range anyway.Even with the TR21 at 1.25x my optic eye would pick up the illuminated ret,but I was seeing the target with my off eye.This has it’s own issues of course(another topic).
After just looking through a 1.1x I’m not convinced it would be any different for me…Could be mistaken.
So for close range my TA33G-H at 3x works the same for me as the TR21 did at 1.25x(or any other setting).In theory it was great to have the versatility…But I never really bothered to adjust the TR21.It pretty much stayed on 4x anyway.
The TR21 (especially in the Larue mount) was much heavier and bulkier than the TA33 is obviously.
I’m much happier with the ACOG and I’m glad I opted for it over the new TR24 at this point(even heavier than the TR21).I like the horshoe up close and the BDC should be nice if I’m ever able to find somewhere to use it.
YMMV -Especially here…I’m convinced I see things(literally) in strange ways.
