Think you could build this upper for less than $850?

Okay, so I am extremely close to purchasing my 1st AR, which I want to be nice. However, after doing some pricing, I just wanted to make sure I am in the right ballpark, some suggest I am getting taken for a ride, while others, who actually price it out, agree its about right.

There are only a couple specific things I want, a 14.5" barrel (pref 1:7 and no m203 notches) and the 10" Troy railing.

CMMG

Complete CMMG barrel 14.5" Carbine 1:7 twist - $299
Delta Ring - $12
Gas Tube and Roll pin - $12
Perm Vortex FS upgrade - $20
Micro Gas Block - $60
Troy 10" - $240
Upper receiver - $105
BCG - $130
Ch handle - $20
Handguard cap/enguard cap - Factory recommended (included in price if needed)
Extended and polished feedramps

= $898

LMT

LMT 14.5" Upper - $489
LMT FA BCG - $130
CH - $20
Troy Rails - $240
Low Pro Gas Block - $50
Permanent Phantom - $50

= $979

The flip up sites are $260, I’m thinking I can probably sell them for around $200 or more? Not sure if Noveske will delete them prior to order, but I’ll ask. Somehow, I don’t think they will.

edited out LE prices for Noveske.–gotm4

I think the Noveske barrel is worth more than the $30 difference over your build. I would go that route in a heartbeat (and plan to in a month or so).

You can save $50 by cutting down the FSP instead of a lo pro GB.

Good info, I didnt realize this could be done. By chance, you wouldnt know of a link that shows or otherwise explains this process, do you?

thanks

There’s a whole post with pictures and instructions on the other site. Easily done with a dremel or hacksaw and something to refinish the part with afterwords.

It’s way down towards the bottom after the part about assembling uppers and lowers.

ADCO offers this as a service if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself.

It is pretty straight forward to do, and the directions linked to above seem more than adequate.

Good luck!

FYI - You won’t need a delta ring if you are using the TROY rail, just a barrel nut.
