The stupidity of Progressives is mind boggling

http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/19/opinion/waldman-gun-vote/index.html?hpt=hp_bn7

The Senate is an extraordinarily undemocratic institution, where outsized power goes to the small, rural states with strong support for unlimited gun rights. The 57 million Americans who live in California and New York get four votes in the Senate, all of which were in favor of background checks.

But the 1.3 million Americans who live in Wyoming and North Dakota also get four votes, and they were all opposed. And that’s not to mention the filibuster, which allows the minority to thwart the majority’s will. You might not have realized it if you watched the coverage, but this background check bill was supported by a majority of the Senate.

Is such a fundamental lack of understanding of basic Civics real or is it something that they fake expecting the “unwashed masses” to not know the difference?

I can’t believe that anyone with even a basic High School education wouldn’t understand how the government works and WHY it was set up that way.

So would they be okay with returning to the Jim Crow days if a “majority” of American’s supported it? What about women’s suffrage? Homosexual marriage?

I don’t know what irritates me more, that they are that dumb or if they think WE are that dumb.

I am amazed at all the out of state people that have been posting on my Senators’ Facebook pages. They claim that Senators represent the USA before their states. WTF?

Geez the stupidity.

I am beginning to think that within my lifetime we are going to change from a Union of independent states to a centralized mob rule “democracy” without a whimper simply because people don’t understand what they have now and the influx of immigrants from totalitarian centrally controlled governments who don’t know any better.

:frowning:

Very little civics is taught in public school now, by design of course.

I believe it.

I know during my highschool years 88-91 that Civics was taught by a joke teacher and it was a joke class.

I paid attention because I was a nerd and I was interested, but most everyone else thought it was a goof off class.

I can’t imagine how bad it is now.:frowning:

He is the author of “Being Right Is Not Enough: What Progressives Must Learn From Conservative Success.” I would just ignore anything he says because it is likely without merit or logic.

Absolutely, the Socialists/Communists want total indoctrination and compliance.

One thing that I love is that the progressives on gun control are using the same 2-3 polls to support their arguments. They use the concept of universal background checks and without educating people it seems like its a good idea.

I explained to several friends and family members that the only way that a universal background check could be effective is if the federal government had an accurate count of who owned which guns currently. If they didn’t do that then the universal background check would have zero effectiveness. After explaining this I asked everyone “Do you think the federal government should know what guns you own?” Everyone said no.

The left is very good at developing new wording for concepts and the concept of a universal background check is nothing more than a back door attempt at universal registration.

I am not disputing this. However, can you explain your argumentation. It might come in handy…

thanks

Although I did not read these articles in when initially forming my opinion, these will provide some background into my thought process.

I do believe this to be BS. You might want to check this quote out.

I did. Snopes has it as probably false but inconclusive. Snopes has had some interesting controversies as well regarding a number of issues & their veracity. Your certainly entitled to your opinion.

Other sources stand by it. Glad your checking. Now I can sleep better.

I simply wouldn’t use quotes like that when there is not conclusive proof it exists. It’s not really an “opinion” when there is little to zero authentic proof he ever said it.

The “Democratic Party” of 1944 is not the same party of 2013. What constitutes a “liberal” is not the same either. He could say it today and it make lots of sense, but back then it would make little, which is why its authenticity is questioned.

I simply did.
It’s been around for some time in fact.
Well published. I’m not going to get pedantic about this w/ all that’s going on. I did some diligence, was not rude, did not voice an opinion either way just posted a known & public meme that has been in public use for some time. I could make lots of comments regarding your assertions & opinions. I do not. Pick & choose your battles.

Ummmm… ok? Jeeze dude.

You shouldn’t expect to post a very unconfirmed quote holding a position and expect to be immune from being called on it. But it’s fine, have a good day.

quote of his or not ? who cares at this point ! because it is the truth or reality we now are in !!!

not crusader but without a national registry UBCs are worthless because the gov doesn’t know who owns what as their is nothing to stop off the book transfers. If their registered that solves their problem as they would know who owns what.

Of course criminals still wouldn’t care but I’m convinced the gun grabbers perceive us and the real criminals as the same population.

Bogus quotes are annoying. If that page is accurate, Reagan’s biographer said Reagan didn’t even know the origins of it, i.e. made-up. There are ton of George Washington/Thomas Jefferson ones on here that are fake too, along with that probably bogus “There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass” Japanese admiral quote. Sloppy.

The “we have awoken and sleeping giant” Yamamoto quote is also dubious.

While misquoting a founding father is far more serious than misquoting a American socialist, bogus quoting is still bogus quoting. If a quote is going to be used to push an particular agenda, it should always be correct and verifiable.
