The liberals know how to play the long game. The roots for all of this progressivist thought, contrary to the message of most GOP candidates, didn’t start with Obama nor will they end with Hillary. Go back a century and you’ll see the intellectual roots in US marxism and the practical ongoing, but gradual erosion of our rights in proportion to how the role of the state increases. If you took someone from 1915 and said, “this week the supreme court is going to legalize gay marriage, rewrite law to allow for subsidized government mandated healthcare, and allow HUD to forcibly integrate neighborhoods” - they would think you just escaped from the looney bin. If you make the same statements, decade by decade to present; you will appear to be less insane (even though the decisions are insane) as the years go on due to the change in morality and acceptance of the increasing role of government.
Lest we forget, the same “socialized medicine” proposed by Clinton, now fulfilled by Obamacare (SCOTUScare) didn’t receive a very warm reception back in the '90’s by media, voters, or many democrats. Today the GOP is too afraid to say “the government shouldn’t be responsible for your healthcare - we can’t afford it, and it isn’t our role. What we can do is make sure government isn’t a barrier” Now they cowardly have to cater to the dependent and propose “alternatives” that maintain subsidies. The GOP of the 90’s could say this as could the DEMs of the 50’s. The long game got them and society changed.
Today, the liberal playbook is much easier for them to speed the process of “fundamental transformation”. Your average voter doesn’t vote, doesn’t know anything about he issues, is distracted by technology, media, and entertainment, and only votes based on whatever critical mass a candidate achieves in the media’s portrayal of them or whatever gaff they get punished for. If their candidate doesn’t win it is “hey, my vote doesn’t count, so why bother”. Today, the more a party loses elections, the more elections they will lose. Liberals know this, so that is why elections get ugly and that keeps GOP voters away. Liberal voters have no moral compass or sensitivities to offend, so a dirty campaign doesn’t put them off. They will still vote based on dependence, or some intangible slogan based propaganda that makes them feel good. “hope and change”, social justice, equality, etc.
There is no coincidence that liberals have monopolized education and media. If you find the way to control your message and legitimize it, there becomes less resistance to it. There was a time when even the ivy league schools were conservative. Over time, liberals took over until they control the faculty boards to determine who gets tenure and only allow for like minded folks. The same philosophy has trickled down to even local schools. If liberals indoctrinate kids to believe in their utopias, it becomes nearly impossible to get them to accept that what they learned as “truth” or “fact” isn’t so. It becomes an uphill battle.
Media is the same. There are few conservative viewpoints on local news, none on national big network news, little in most print media, and zero in most cable news. Furthermore, there are very few news outlets that don’t mix opinion into news and call it news. Reporting events is something that can be done without bias, but there is a strategy to inject bias into it. This is just propaganda 101 but it didn’t happen overnight.
If you gradually erode morals, destroy religion, destroy culture, destroy trust or faith in fellow man, destroy community, destroy the family, create dependence and erode the sense of self, you end up with a society that is ripe for what we have now. The larger looming problem is that what we have now is usually the precursor in history for something much worse to come. What can we do? As individuals we can do as Moose-Knuckle suggests:
Many feel that we (the US) are on borrowed time. We have passed our expiration date. I’m not throwing in the towel but I can’t “fix” the problem either. As I said in another thread along the same vein; eat right, workout, train, stockpile firearms/ammo/mags/food/water, etc. Things are about to go critical mass, plan accordingly.
As a society we can attempt to band together like minded individuals and work to change what we can. We also have to be prepared to play a long game, unless events create other opportunities, and just can’t look at the carnage that would follow and faint at the sight of blood. Fainting at the sight of blood is why the GOP can’t achieve anything and can’t make tough decisions.
