The Practical AK....Pics

I just received my LaRue QD offset light mount from Grant at G&R Tactical today, and I slapped it on my Arsenal Inc. SLR-106FR that I installed an Aimpoint Comp M2 on an Ultimak yesterday.

When I first saw the picture of the light ring mounted on an AR, I thought that it looked low profile enough to mount in front of the Aimpoint on the Ultimak, and should fit fine if I reversed the mount and used it for the left hand side. It is, and I can even use my iron sights as well.

The light does contact the Aimpoint, but it doesn’t seem to effect the POA of the dot in relation to the co-witness of the iron sights.

The light mounts at the 10 o’clock position on the left hand side of the rifle, and I can easily activate the light with my support thumb.

Well done!

SWEET!

Damn you, Templar.
I had finally talked myself out of finding a 5.45 AK and you keep posting pics of a 5.56 one!
With my large stocks of 556 ammo, It’d be a no brainer!

What about a SBR’d SLR-106CR? Or maybe just a SLR-106FR, as I like muzzle velocity.
Ultimak gas tube and a T-1 Aimpoint which would leave room for my beloved IWAL2 IR laser or Surefire Scout light & offset mount, a QD swivel mount to the front hand guard and lower PRI rail mount like on my A1R for a lefty sling setup and a bipod mount or forward verticle grip compatibility, 20 magazines, a Bulgy flash suppressor, and she’d be good to go.

Nice! That makes a great case for AK ownership!!!
Well done.

Functional set up I like it.

Must…not…purchase…5.56 AK…must…resist…

That’s a nice setup. Once I get my AK’s together (waiting on the trigger guard jig), I’m going to try out a similar light setup.

Slick, looks like a good use for an E series Surefire light in the same style clamp.

NICE!!!

I have a soft spot for 5.45 AKs (I am aware that this one is not). I sold my only AK about 18 months ago, and I kinda miss her. So I started a work-up on a 5.45 Tantal to morph her into a fighting gun.

After I figured out exactly what direction I wanted to take I had amased nearly $1500 in accessories, not counting initial rifle purchase price, magazines, or ammunition.

This cannot be right. Maybe I need to find a dictionary and look up this “practical” thing you are referring to. . .

Nice.

Thanks guys.

I also think the E series light would work great with this application, but I’m running with what I had on hand.

Edwin, that set up sounds great. I have a 20 rd. mag for the 106FR and it’s great for sighting in and just as a very compact package with the stock folded, if’n you ever needed to have one up with you in the driver’s compartment of a vehicle, the 20 rd. mags are great.

Sweet!!! drool

Nice, which mount are you running on the CompM2? Does it co-witness?

Thanks Chewy!

Tim,
Did you get the right UltiMak rail for your AK? Neither of mine have the extra series of vent holes.

I also used one of those Springfield Armory rings when I mounted my C3 on my SAR1. It co-witness’ in the lower 1/5 of the tube.

Here is my go-to. I have a Krebs peep sight and an Ak Concepts brake. Other than that nothing crazy. I think I am going to swap over to a standard swell handguard.

I too bought this fine rifle, but I couldnt resist,I bought two. I would really love to get a Molle mag pouch (I’d prefer a 3 mag pouch, side by side version,so they lay flat) I bought one through Cheaper than Dirt, which is really nice, but the 5.56 AK mags wont fit. Their too long and wide. I want to put it on a drop leg Molle set up.Is there anyone out there that makes a Molle pouch for these unusually sized mags??

Bulldog, I used Springfield Armory ring from Brownells http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=17463&st=817-000-003&s=30128 mounted to an Ultimak M2-B, which has the gas port holes. The M1-B does not have the holes. My 106 runs great with the extra gas port holes, which are on the original milled AK-47, but I could have also run it without. The Hungarian AKM’s use an AKM gas block (with gas ports) and an AK-47 gas tube (which aslo has the gas ports) with no issues.

I got my Ultimak from www.blackjackbuffers.com

Robb, no issues with the extra gas porting so far, I’ve run both Serbian Prvi Partizan M193 and Barnaul laquer cased 62 gr. stuff through it.

Badass, Templar.

Thats all I can say.
