The most dangerous city in the world is...

Where they banned civilian gun ownership in 2012 (1) where things went from bad to worse to FUBAR:

Caracas was the most dangerous capital city in the world last year, study says

Caracas, Venezuela, was the most dangerous capital city in the world in 2017, according to a new study that underscores how Latin America remains one of the bloodiest swaths of the planet.

According to Mexico’s Citizens Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice, 43 of the world’s 50 most violent cities were in Latin America and the Caribbean, with Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela leading the list.

Los Cabos, Mexico, topped the annual ranking with a murder rate of 111.3 per 100,000 residents. But Caracas — just one of five capital cities on the list — was in a close second place with 111.2 murders per 100,000 residents.

The 10th annual ranking was released this week and measures murder rates in cities with more than 300,000 people.

Golly, you mean the criminals didn’t turn in their guns? This is terrible! Gee whiz, has that ever happened before? Who could have seen that coming!

For comparison, we here in the United States, 4.2 per 100,000 last I knew as of a few years ago (down steadily from 9.8 in 1991).

But but but but the rate was 116/100,000 in 2012! See gun control works!

It was 134 in 2013. SHUT UP AND BAN GUNS!

Makes for a perfecrt modern case study on the fact the gun ban in 2012 was in fact the move by the Chavez government to disarm the population (under the usual pretense of lowering crime) to take further control of the country, which is exactly what happened post ban. It’s text book socialist -> dictatorship move. That aspect of it, does not seem to get much attention, even from pro 2A scholars and such. They do discuss the crime rates, but not the larger picture reason for the ban. We have no way of knowing had citizens kept their firearms and such if an armed resistance would have formed to that dictatorship or not, but what we do know is, they have been put in the position (intentionally so) that they have a classic police state where only the police, military, and criminals have the guns.

It’s interesting to note when looking at countries in the western hemisphere how former Spanish colonies heavily influenced by Catholicism generally have systemic levels of crime, corruption, and low prosperity while former English colonies do not.

What you unenlightened cretins don’t understand is that the problem is they haven’t Made MORE gun laws, taken away MORE of the guns, and implemented MORE socialism.

Truth right here.

In a true socialist utopia only the government shoots you.

I know someone that did his Masters thesis on this, on a break from being an FAO, based on his earlier 18A time.

Think of it like this-
In general, if the whiskey, gold, whatever valuable is kept in a room,
It will have a key, and some guards. In some of the more orderly European cultures, there will be a system for accountability, getting your allotment, etc. that is fairly straightforward. Not perfect, but in general if you are allowed a bottle of whiskey, you will get it. your job, reputation, shame, pride, keep things fairly honest and there are a reasonable amount of levels of supervision.

In some of the less orderly European cultures, those that tend to gather in huge clusters and could not get in an orderly line to save their lives, they are so sure people are going to steal, pilfer, sneak, etc. the goodies they instill 20 extra layers of checks and securities to make sure none of that happens. In reality, this ensures several more opportunities for graft, needing to bribe someone for what you are entitled to, skimming of the top, having to buy lunch for the guy in charge of the guy that makes the appointment to see the guy that signs out the key, who you will have to bribe, and even then are only likely to get your full bottle of whiskey if you are married to the guards sister.

So, sort of compare in your head typically Italian, Spanish, Portuguese vs English, German.

It is very interesting in a culture where several of those clash-
Say, Argentina.

Livin’ in Bernie’s Paradise…

The list is highly suspect IMO. Not a single middle eastern or southeast Asian city made the list?

saw this pop up

San Pedro Sula  ahhhhh loved that place
nothing like a knife in the belly and being in a full auto gun fight and that is just at the airport  hahahahahaha

spent a lot more time in La Ceiba murder rate per 100,000 population was 158.2 in 2010
but its population is under 300k so small really violent cities do not make the big list but often are worse than the big cities

not sure what the gun death rate is ? but beating to death or being ripped apart by vehicles and the good ol machete are what I feared more than anyone with a gun

gangs are scary and not all are tattoed monsters
as we are seeing here now many are young kids both boys and girls who are worse and more scary in many ways

gun control did work though cause now the criminals have complete control
