Thanks, I get an hi-res image from google and edit it to what I want. Then load the part in the laser machine, click “print” and the machine goes to town…
Did you test it on some random blank first to ensure it’d look the way you want before taking it to your receiver?

Not on my SCAR. I just went with it. I was kinda scared cause its it my personal rifle and Ive got a lot of money tied up in it. Ive done enough to know more or less what it was going to do, and it did. Ive done plenty of ARs, I know what its going to do and what power setting to use already…

That is my SBR engraving, although it was done on a CNC mill. Ive passed up SO many of these cause I wasnt sure my laser would meet ATFs .003" depth requirment. After seeing what Ive done
and how shallow the factory laser engravings are on my SCAR, Im pretty sure I can do it just fine. SO in short, I think Im gonna star offering SBR engraving…

If they want to get you on something they will. I doubt they care if its 0.0015 or 0.003. As long as it’s on and somewhat permanent.
How does one go about sending a lower to have etched?
indeed… it looks like it was done before the anodize, the finish is so clean. thats mostly what i’m wondering about- is that cleanliness the product of a really good “touch up,” or is the engraving anodized?

The engraving on the SCAR is done after anodizing. You would be very surprised at the detail a laser can do. Im sure you could anodize after lasering, it would be the same color in the end. The SCAR however, is lasered after…

Ah I gottcha. Yes and no. I had the lower CNC engraved then I DuraCoated the upper and lower together for a perfect color match. So the engraving was DuraCoated over and the snake was lasered through the DuraCoat into the aluminum…
