So Im feeling a bit dumb if you guys verify what Im thinking here. So on these boards among others Iv seen reference to the “KISS Carbine”. Now Iv always just dismissed it as a brand of AR but never thought to look into it at all. So today I got the Magpul ATC DVD’s and heard reference to the “typical KISS style carbine”. The instructor was showing one of the students rifles as reference. Then he started talking about a more complex tactical set up. Then it dawned on me!
The KISS Carbine = Keep It Simple Stupid
Help me out here! Am I correct or not catching on to something? Or both?
The KISS concept varies from person to person and forum to forum. If you look at TOS, you will see KISS defined as no optics, flashlights, etc and will have picture evidence submitted that mirrors the pictures posted above. For these people; KISS is often more of a “retro” issue than anything else.
If you go elsewhere, you will see KISS defined as only having exactly what you need on the gun, nothing extra. For these users, it is typically an optic (aimpoint/EoTech), a light, and a sling.
Personaly, I view the retro KISS as being a less than optimal tool and not waste my time having any guns set up in such a manner.
I went out to upgrade my M4 in a simple way. However being somewhat new to the AR system. I felt it necessary to become very proficient with the irons. I have used irons, red dots, scopes in the past, But untill if can hit you at 200meters with some irons I dont need anything else at the moment. However I am saving up my pennies for an eotech right now. And a tactical light someday when funds allow. So I think it somewhat depends on how much money you have to play with
