The light seems too far away from the FG to be useful otherwise.

Yes… I like to use a slightly modified with shooting position that uses the vertical grip as a hand stop. That is why I went with the stubby.
I’m thinking about getting one of the 7.3" CMMG 9mm uppers though, and I’ll probably go with a full size grip and use it the way it was intended on that though.
