The importance of bolt rotation time/distance

I don’t think we’ve discussed this. (search function certainly didn’t deliver)

We understand there are bolts that have 6 or 7 lugs, and the argument is that it lock and unlocks as quickly as possible.

But why? Why is faster locking and unlocking important? What difference does it make compared to 2/3 lug bolts which obviously require longer lock/unlock time?

Less lugs would require longer bolt carrier travel or a steeper angle in the cam pin slot.
