The Gun/Ammo Panic May Be Over.

This week, for the first time since I started selling ammo on Gunbroker in September my auctions broke even or did not sell. This means I sold the items for what I paid + the auction fees. In reality I lost money once my time and gas is factored in. My Federal Premium .380 JHP Punch ammo went for cost, my Federal HST 45 ACP +P sold for cost but I believe the buyer is going to back out. My Speer 9MM +P Gold Dot 124 did not sell. I was looking at AR prices on Gunbroker as I want to sell some guns to fund closing costs on a house but even AR’s are mostly going without bids. It could be tight post Christmas pockets books but we may have just hit the top of the market and are seeing demand start to slow.

Quiet before the storm. Wait until the GA senate races are stolen next week.

Hopefully it’s slowing. But ammo is still hard to find or is at an insane price.

Or it could mean folks have all the ammo they are willing to pay a premium for.

Which is exactly my point. We have hit peak demand and are now moving down towards an equilibrium price.

I dont think we have seen anything yet. Just wait.

One tweet from the Hairsniffer or Kameluh about gun control and prices will skyrocket

When a pallet of ammo gets rolled into the floor locally, it’s gone before the day is over. This is true still today.

Perhaps your cost is too high.

Academy still offers good prices. $49.99 for 200 round white box. Similar prices for other bulk packs. I called an Academy close to my job a couple weeks ago and asked if they had any ammo that day. They said they got 100 bulk packs in and 100 were already sold. I asked when they opened and if there was a line in the morning. He said they open at 8 and people started showing up at 4 to wait in line. My wtf face was very apparent to my buddies when I heard that piece of info.

That is peak market price, not peak demand. Peak demand will come when prices are back to near pre-Floyd. For example, I am in for 25K each of 556/9mm/45ACP and perhaps 50K of 22LR, but not at current price.

Again, that is my point. My price strategy has not changed and wasn’t too high 3 weeks ago but they are too high this week. In the case of 40 rounds of Federal Premium .380 Punch JHP $29.00 was the final price. I wouldn’t call that high even pre-panic. People have just bought what they are going to buy for a while. I think you will soon see those pallets sticking around as guys like me quit raiding them daily for resale. Well it was a good run while it lasted.

Around here nobody does business with those types. The gun shops refuse them.

Out here the gunshops are the biggest raiders. Some of the local medium box stores have resorted to stamping ammo boxes “SOLD BY MEDIUM MART” to deter the LGS guys. Makes no difference to me though.

And Team SlowJoe / BlowHo begins screwing up the country.

So Ammo Seek shows 115gr 9mm for $.56-.57 for 1000rds of Brass. I have a feeling that it might go up again, but how much I don’t know.

Wait until everybody gets their $600 hush money.

A real job would allow you to earn more money faster than that crap…

And would be less annoying to fellow shooters

I wish things would mellow out.

Glocks and ARs fly out of my 01’s inventory almost as fast as he logs them in. Shelves still bare. No 5.56, no 9mm.

Who is still buying at this point?

I’m still buying 9mm a box or two at a time here and there so I can maintain my weekly pistol practice sessions. I slip pretty badly if I don’t shoot handgun regularly. Even an abbreviated range session is better than nothing. I blew through my range 9mm faster than I could afford to replenish it and have to suck it up with regard to the high prices. I probably have about 600 rounds of defensive ammo - mostly HST - that doesn’t get shot nearly as much though.
I’ve basically stopped buying 5.56 though. And I haven’t fired an AR in probably over a month, which I’m not happy about, but I don’t want to dip into my reserves. I’ve been shooting AKs of late instead.
