Several outlets have been out of stock for a curiously long time, Brownells had them on clearance and has marked a few variants:
"Product has been discontinued and no longer available"
Is the RIS II being put out to pasture for good? RIS III on the horizion? Gov’t contract is up?
What’s the story?
Until DD issues a statement I would guess that a draw down in manufacturing on the RIS II to meet the demands of the military and their upper/rifle sales while not producing a surplus. Would make sense given just how saturated the market has become.
I considered that too; I have a hard time looking past the use of the word “discontinued” though.
Rainier restocked RIS II’s a few weeks ago, and still have a bunch in stock.
RIS IIs are still alive and well. At this time, the military community is purchasing all we can produce. This is why they are not currently available on the commercial market.
