The "experts" at Yahoo now say yougurt is not healthy (??)

https://www.yahoo.com/health/study-casts-doubt-on-yogurts-health-benefits-117086617642.html

Anyone else think these nutritional articles that show up on Yahoo News feed are VERY misleading and maybe downright inaccurate?

This study (…and I use their word) says that yogurt is not as healthy for us as they once thought. They quote some obscure study but I still think their “study” needs more explanation to have validity.

How about the fact that yogurt is packed with calcium, potassium and anti-oxidants? The 100 calorie Chobani tubs that I buy (…and am addicted to BTW) also have 13g of protein as well.

Ok, so there is a little sugar in the average serving of Greek yogurt but don’t the many other benefits found there sort of cancel out the sugars? I think yogurt is ten times healthier that 905 of what most Americans snack on.

…what say you?

It’s Yahoo news

Yeah but Yahoo news is…unfortunately…soaked up by a mass of people and taken as the gospel truth.

They also had an article about how bananas were bad for you because they too had high levels of sugars and carbs.

Really? No mention of the potassium, fiber and anti-oxidants in the bananas…just focus on the sugar. I would tend to think that the sugars found naturally in a banana are VERY different from the refined sugars found in, say a cookie.

Also…didn’t they do this same thing to eggs recently? For a long time it was “don’t eat eggs - they are bad for your cholesterol, etc.” Now, it seems that eggs are ok.

Maybe they are banking on reverse psychology?

Maybe; like many experts out there they don’t know shit from shills. I’ve gotten to the point where I tend to dismiss 99.973% of the information presented in any format as BS. When it comes to the human body I’m 100% certain that we are in the we don’t know what we don’t know state of affairs. Couple that with the money to be made by selling the latest and greatest trendy drug or diet or penis pump… and you have a mess out there.

It seems like there always has to be a current enemy in the food/nutrition biz.

Once it was beef…now that is ok. Then it was eggs…now they are ok. One time it was fat and everything went “fat free” and nobody wanted anything that contained any fat. That lead to carbs and nobody would even look at a piece of bread. Now it seems that gluten is the next up.

I don’t know but when I see 70-90% of the people around me eating some form of fast food or overly processed food for lunch every day, I find it hard to believe that my beloved yogurt or banana are all that bad! LOL

Currently people seem to believe that carbs are all inherently evil and make you fat.

IMHO, it depends what kind. Natural is great for you, but you need a little honey or agave to give it a hint of sweet. Those name brands you normally find are loaded with sugar, which taken excessively is no better than drinking a coke. That seems to be the issue, more than just plain yogurt.

Yeah, avoid the name brands- it’s just more processed shit.

I go with organic (Trader Joe’s)…somewhat sour, but I use it as a post-workout meal, with a scoop of vanilla whey & mixed berries…tastes better than ice cream, if you ask me!

Side note but as some who is not too bedfellows with gluten it’s a miserable experience for sure. I can’t eat pizza man…

In my not so professional opinion; obesity has little to do with diet and more to do with a number of factors. Example: my great grandmother ate raw bacon(not the meaty kind) for breakfast EVERY DAY. Ate bread covered with left over chicken/duck/pork grease for lunch. Some form of meant and potatoes with gravy for supper and maybe some more bread and fat before bed. Smoked unfiltered cigs like a chimney all day long and drank crappy liquor like a fish. She dies at 104 while chasing a chicken for lunch. She consumed all the crap that is “bad” for us and lived happily. Why is that? Could it be that she actually consumed all those calories by working her ass off from sun up to sun down? Maybe she had good genes. Who knows; but I’m certain it wasn’t just one thing that did it.

Each of us is different. We all need to find what works for US and stick to it. For some that may be a low carb diet. Maybe simply more exercise works for you. No one thing will work for everyone. EVER.

Most of the west and Americans in general have to contend with perfect storm of sorts. We are stupid lazy ****s who fall for all the BS out there. We lead VERY sedentary lives; yet consume thousands upon thousands of calories. Majority of which comes from crap ingredients processed to taste great in order to maximize profit. Even the healthy stuff is loaded with crap (hormones…)to increase profit margins for the makers. When you read a label and the first ingredient is high fructose corn syrup you know you’re in a world of hurt. But the experts on TV say it isn’t so.

Basically, the experts are expert at selling you a line of crap.

Sorry for the rant.

There are exceptions to everything. Good for her, but living the way she did would put most of us in an early grave.

If yahoo only knew what the hell they were talking about.

What a load of shit. With the right brands it’s no fat, low cal, high protein and low to equal carbs.

Go home yahoo. You are drunk and acting stupid.

I buy an organic plain Greek yogurt sold by Whole Foods. Toss in some fresh blackberries, raspberries or strawberries and that is my between meals snack.

Compare that to the between meal snacks I see my co-workers eat like cookies, donuts or potato chips and I think there IS a difference in the carbs they ingest and the carbs I am taking in.

All carbs are probably not created equal…but I am not an expert.

Remember, Yahoo’s real goal is to sell advertisements and they use controversy to get people to look at pages with ads.
