The direction this site is taking

I wish I didn’t have to start this thread as of lately I noticed that there is a lot more drama similar to daily happenings a TOS. I know this is all a part of site growing but there is no need for that crap in professional discussion forums.

I wouldn’t say it’s quite as bad, and it certainly doesn’t have the feel of silencertalk, but there does appear to be a bit more animosity of late.

I mostly lurk, but I’ve noticed it too.

I’ve also noticed that Pat no longer posts here and is no longer listed as an Industry Professional. I miss his insights.

???

That’s news to me…then again, I’m the last to know about many things.

I don’t think anyone would have noticed unless they were specifically looking. I enjoy Pat’s posts, so I have a bookmarked query that shows all of his posts. From that you can see his last post was almost 2 weeks ago. Also, if you look at any of his posts or his member profile, you’ll see “Member” under his name where it used to say “Industry Professional”. Not sure what happen, nor do I really care to hear the details.

I read the 10-8 forums now to see what he has to say.

It’s actually quite simple to fix… but takes some draconian measures to maintain…

I havnt been here long but definantly see some holier than thou types who like looking down their nose at people and god forbid if you have a Bushmaster

I don’t think you will find a single person on this forum that looks down on anyones choice for weapons. There are those that know far more about AR’s and try to help educate folks on the differences between say a BM and a LMT/COLT.

As of late, people attempting to spread knowledge has been met with resentment and a condescending attitude. There really is no need for this. If you feel that BM is the best choice for you then great! You can even argue that BM makes a fine weapon, but you should REALLY have your facts straight if your going to go down that road.

This is a stage of growth that is un-avoidable. Luckily we have mods and staff on here that are quick to clean up bad threads and correct rude behavior.

There should always be a healthy debate about which brand is good, bad and ok. The issues come in when people want to make the debate personal and attack the other member. Having spent a good portion of my adult life on internet gun forums, I can honestly say that the main reason why people get into flame wars is because they are married to their gear and weapons. It seems most prevelant when a guy buys a lesser quality AR and then learns that it is not the best one out there. Instead of accepting this and trying to learn what makes up a quality fighting weapon, he simply goes on a rant about people being “kool-aid” drinkers or some other ignorant comment.

So how can we minimize this type of behavior? Don’t know for sure, but being patient and emotionally detached from the discussion seems to help a lot.

Pat Rogers being delisted as an Industry Professional is outragous.

The man knows more about the M4 platform and tactical things in general than just about anyone I can think of.

You may not always like his opinions and he certainly will not sugarcoat anything or treat anyone with kid gloves.

But to delist him, if that is what happened and it was not some type of glitch, is unforgiveable.

Good call, Paulinski.

From what I’ve seen, some of M4Carbine.net’s content has attracted (if not created) the recent drama. And maybe, as Grant said, that’s unavoidable.

RIF: I’m not pitching rocks at specific members or staff here.

Still, like many groups and organizations, M4Carbine.net faces a choice: define itself by what it advocates, or define itself by its objections.

The former is constructive. The latter is not. The difference is in the way the information is presented.

For the record, I’m not implying that he was “delisted” (nor do I think you are saying that I was), but rather I was just posting an observation.

Excellent point.

I had noticed that the lack of his posts lately – our loss.

I thought “Industry Professional” was more the site’s acknowledgment of one’s credentials, and less of a stutus title provided by the site. Seems odd that it would be revoked; I think Pat’s creds are intact.

Anyway, this is still a good site, and Pat is still on internet forums. Life goes on.

Illustrated here.

I post here and on ARFCOM and 1 or 2 other sites and I don’t understand all the bullcrap that goes on between here and ARFCOM. I started coming to this site to learn more from the industry professionals, but I’ve noticed that some of them are just a bunch of snotty know-it alls who think that they are the only ones that ever served in the Military.

While this site has some very good info, its the same 10 or so guys who take themselves wayyy to seriously(IMHO).Yes they build ar-15’s,Take the Pat Rogers, Larry Vickers classes,But most(NOT ALL) of the people on this board(myself included)are just weekend shooters/plinkers.Im not knocking people on this board, this is just MY observation. Also this is just a fourm, people will come and go , life goes on… try and not take this or any other fourm site too seriously.Ohh ya… go out and shoot.

I own a Bushmaster. It is my main go-to gun.

I’ve even been in training classes with several members of this site.

None of them have ever looked down their nose at me…partly because I am taller than several of them, and partly because they are just generally decent people.

Strangely enough it is only on the internet that people seem to get their feelings hurt on matters like that.

I’m willing to bet that if you met some of the people who “look down their nose at people” you’d come away with an entirely different impression. Heck, one of the moderators here saw a picture of my rifle and felt so sorry for me he offered to refinish it for me.

One of the mods explained it to me…and I still don’t understand it.

I started coming to this site to learn more from the industry professionals, but I’ve noticed that some of them are just a bunch of snotty know-it alls who think that they are the only ones that ever served in the Military.

That’s not been my experience at all.

The guys labeled as industry professionals on this site are in general awesome human beings with a wealth of knowledge and information. If you look at somebody like Larry Vickers who served in one of the most elite units in the US military you won’t find a more humble or down to earth individual anywhere. I spent some time training with him in March and I was impressed.

Pat Rogers is by all reports an awesome trainer with a lot of good information. I’ve never met the man, but what I’ve heard from people I trust has all been good.

I suppose I am fortunate in that I have some personal knowledge of a few of the moderators here. If they put the title of Industry Professional under the name of some of the people kind enough to share their knowledge on this site, I listen carefully. Guys for whom combat is a reality of daily life seek out many of the individuals labeled as industry professionals here.

There are reasons for that…usually very very good ones.

Again, this seems to be a phenomenon confined mainly to the internet. I don’t see guys who train with some of these industry professionals coming away with a bad taste in their mouth.

One of the reasons I like this site is because respect seems to be the default position the vast majority of posters take with each other…and that is a marked difference from other sites. Even if someone does go a bit beyond their experience, the attitude is usually very charitable towards them with the goal of instruction rather than derision.

Edit – People make the forum. My experience thusfar is that there are a large number of damn fine individuals on this site.

My 2 cents…worth about half of what you paid for it.

I dunno, maybe I’m one of those 10.

I just see it as people being honest, forthright, and straightforward. I got tired of people on other sites bullshitting and going on for days about feelings and emotions as relate to inanimate objects. I like that people here approach the subject objectively, for the most part.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been involved in disucssions on other sites only to find out that the guy on the other end is 12, only ever shot his daddy’s guns, but was somehow a sniper in Vietnam.
