I stumbled upon a site called “The Burning House” where people list and post pictures of things they would save if their house were burning down. They encourage people to think of the question in terms of: “…a conflict between what’s practical, valuable, and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question.”
So, what handgun would you grab if you could save only 1?
Mine would probably be my HK45c. It has been utterly reliable, it would last me forever, and it’s a .45
The most expensive gun in my safe is my 6920. The rest are Glocks and other “work” type guns that can easily be replaced. With that said, I’d grab my Ruger MKII 22/45. It’s my first, given to me by my father.
I’d take the gun attached to my body at that time.
If the house is on fire, it’s not worth dying for to retrieve a gun. I did spend a huge chunk of change on a fire rated gun safe, so I hopefully won’t have to worry about this.
Seeing that my 637-2 stays on me except when I’m sleeping, that would be already there on my hip.
If I were retrieving one that wasn’t on my body would probably be my H&K91 or my AR-15a4 home built - very hard decision there. Like Boat_trash said no gun is worth dying for, it would have to be an extenuating circumstance for me to run into a burning house.
Ahh ya that would do it :-/ Though, mine has been 100% and I even sent it back to H&K a them install a match hammer, some lighter springs, etc… So, I can’t complain too much about my trigger
One of my GLOCK 19s. Currently my GEN3 is what’s out of the safe. I also have a fireproof safe so hope to save all of my collection but understand what the OP’s point is. I’ve asked myself numerous times the “What one gun?” question and it’s almost always one of my 19s.
The 19 is a solid choice. I feel like I there’s no good reason NOT to pick the 19, but I almost can’t get over grabbing the glock after spending all that $$ on fancier guns.
Great-grandfather’s top-break Smith and Wesson revolver. He carried it as a Texas peace officer in the 1880’s. I’d snag that, the insurance company can buy me a new one of everything else.
Well my carry gun is always on my hip if I have jeans on…so I wouldn’t have to grab it, it’s always on my hip… So with that said I would grab my DDMK18
For me it would be “guns”. There’s a M&P on the nightstand and a SBR next to the headboard. I can’t imagine I wouldn’t be able to grab both. Hell, sling the rifle and I’ll still have a free hand. As far as the rest? Nothing my insurance can’t replace.
I grabbed my young son and got him out, then went back for my wife who was overcome by smoke. It was a struggle getting her out,and getting air. A gun was the last thing on my mind.
