The Army's Official Camo Improvement Program

Figured we could use an updated thread as they are hopefully releasing the decision soon. I’m dying to know what its going to be. I really want to see Crye’s submission too, its the only one I haven’t seen any images of.

Anybody else following this? SSD has been posting teasers since it was announced a decision had been made…

US4CES (ADS submission)

Not the post I was looking for, but getting closer…

This should be interesting.

Any links?

I did find this one:

Brookwood All Terrain Covert Woodland and Brookwood All Terrain Transitional don’t look too bad, IMO.

It will either be multicam or ACU. There’s also no reason to get too wrapped up over it. You’ll wear what you’re issued and you’ll like it.

I hate ACU’s but I’ve worn them for 6.5 years with a year of multicam sandwhiched in. Multicam looks much better than the office space esque ACU.

It won’t be ACU. You do realize the whole point of this is to replace ACU, right?

The whole point of the last fielding was to get something better than BDU’s, that one turned out well for those of us wearing the uniform.

Things mil/gov say and things that get done are two completely different things. How is it that a jarhead doesn’t get that simple notion.

I’m sorry, are you calling me stupid? You can fuck right off.

I like the transitional. Would work well in the southeastern US and many other areas.

The woodland seems to have too much black in it.

Top two look “Multi-camish” to me.

Yep been tracking it.

Been donning the de rigueur Kryptek (Highlander & Nomad) & other stuff while hunting & like it other than / except it’s a “BEACON” under NVD’s.

Pisses me off that the ChiCom have been knocking a lot of it off w/ relative impunity as little has been done punitively.

There is some obvious potential for a couple of you in this thread to round the corner into open conflict. Please take it to PM, and work it out there, if necessary.

Thanks,
AC

Maybe your experience was different, but the friends I have that have Corps experience know the fuck fuck games that the mil like to play.

Wasn’t implying stupidity at all, in fact I typically agree with you in many topics that I don’t post in.

I was trying to imply that you should get that just because they said this trial/fielding/testing whatever was to replace the ACU doesn’t necessarily mean that the ACU’s will be replaced. I think the only logical decision is to go with multicam, the pattern is out there, hell there’s a whole brigade of guard soldiers in the midwest that wouldn’t need uniforms issued, as they’ve already been issued them! But being logical is not what the military does, common sense sure as hell ain’t an Army Value!

I thought “sequester” (scare quotes tm) would have scuttled something like this? No? Can’t afford to send a carrier to the Gulf, anyone remember that…?

That bright green looks like someone put Kermit the Frog thru a wood chipper. Is that supposed to match fresh grass or some swamp color?

I work for a company WAY up the supply chain on this and it seems the biggest issue was that the ACU was just a really weak pattern due to the dying technology from the Invista fiber guys. I remember getting the fabric swatches into our lab and out first thought was ‘this isn’t going to last long’.

Some of the testing methodology seems pretty weak.

ETA: Let’s be very clear here. The Army Combat Uniform is the physical uniform, and has absolutely nothing to do with the camouflage pattern. The ACU is currently in Universal Camo Pattern (UCP) and multicam. ACU and multicam are NOT interchangeable terms.

There was brief sent out recently that the camouflage decision was made, but I think sequestration has put everything on hold, or at least slowed things down. I make no claim, so don’t hold me to any of this.

ACU (the actual uniform) stays, but the UCP is out. This is fact, although there will probably be small incremental improvements to the ACU.

I am hearing four patterns: transitional (garrison), woodland, arid (desert), and “universal” for the OCIE. Resembles MARPAT, but different.

Discuss.

Yup. Let me see if I can find the post saying it had been decided…

Which pattern would work best in Korea? How about the mountains in Afghanistan?

For MY needs and area, Ive always felt the old Vietnam era Tigerstripe camo was and is the best camo ever. That stuff just blends. And I don’t care care what yall say.:stuck_out_tongue:

I’d be fine with a return to the simple OD “slant pocket” jungle fatigues. They seemed to work well just about everywhere.
