Thanksgiving Food

What is everyone eating today? Is anyone going non-traditional?

We’ve made cranberry sauce and sweet potato pie to take to our thanksgiving potluck.

How Jerry Miculek carves a Turkey.

Unbeknownst to me my Thanksgiving feast was blessed with the opportunity to indulge in not only homemade pie but homemade pie baked by a nationally recognized and award winning baker (yes apparently the have such a thing) who was/is a friend of the family.

And OMG I’m in heaven.

For reference. The picture throws it off but the apple crumble in the foreground is 15" across. I measured lol.

We had the traditional menu. I won’t be able to carry IWB for a week.

Yes, have reservations at Legal Seafood. I’m not big on holidays in the best of times, truly not feeling it this season. Is it too early to respond with Bah Humbug?

Only Jerry could get away with that. He’s the king, and a hell of a nice guy to boot.

Turkey, dressing, green beans, creamed corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, sweet potato casserole, mac and cheese, etc. I don’t know if I left anything out.

We were so stuffed that dessert had to wait a couple hours

Pumpkin pie and pecan pie.

Had to go with the J frame .357 in an OWB to make room for all the great food.

I made a bourbon caramel pumpkin tart.

This is the recipe I used.

My caramel wasnt quite dark enough though and blended in with the pumpkin cheese cake filling. Was still really good and got rave reviews.

Turkey and all the usual. I’m the cook, and it was a 9-5 affair to get it all done. I’ll be letting a notch out on the belt for a week now.

The only major departure I make from the usual is I do fresh sweet potatoes, peeled and diced, poached in a red wine and brown sugar sauce with shallots. Far better than the standard prep, IMHO.

My wife made the traditional meal.

Turkey, mashed potatoes n’ gravy, stuffing, corn cranberry sauce and baked dinner rolls. This was followed by the traditional nap on the couch. Two people and three dogs snoring.

Tomorrow we will have the traditional left overs warmed in the oven followed again by the traditional nap on the couch.

wife made this really good desert she got recipe from a lady friend who bakes a lot
kinda pumpkin layer thing but really good want to put a bunch of pecans on it today and try it that way
brown sugar crumble top kinda thing with some cake kinda crust thing on the bottom

not that it takes place of pumpkin pie or pecan pie its in addition TO it  hahahaha

Had traditional food, as decent quality that the defac could produce, Niagra on KAF, was wished a happy Thanksgiving and shook hands with the CENTCOM Commander, and a two star who’s name escapes me. Followed by seeing the black Friday rush on the PX all day long today, at least there was no stampeding, fighting or any of that crap you see back in the states.

Had a traditional meal. I ALWAYS get a drumstick…that’s a cardinal rule in my family. Yesterday, I had two because I was with my in-laws, and they only like white meat. I was happy about that! Both my family and my wife’s family are very traditional in our cooking. Everything is done from scratch. Nothing is canned or from a mix: Cranberry sauce, gravy, pie filling, stuffing…all made in home. All pies are made at home too: No pre-made stuff from Costco or anything. Everyone on both sides of my family, including myself and my wife, are good cooks, so Thanksgiving is good no matter who is hosting. My specialty is pumpkin pie.
