After a 32 day wait for a RRA Operator2 I called and cancelled my order. The more I started looking at Daniel Defense m4 the more I wanted one. Almost 100% made in house, only 7.1lbs, hamer forged barrel , ect …For $325 more i felt i made the right choice. Just really wanted to thank the guys that explain the quality difference in a polite manner. Will give range reports hopefully in a few days. I ordered it from Rainier Arms, they had them in stock, and I can see Mt. Rainier from my backyard . Anyway if anyone has any info on prefered ammo or expected accuracy I would like to hear from you. Thanks.
You just took a big step up in the quality world. Be glad that RRA couldn’t ship in time for you.
First off, congratulations on buying a quyality M4 rifle; you will be very pleased with your DDM4; great rifles and great CS if anything happens to go wrong. Glad that RRA couldn’t get you a rifle in time so you could get this DD; much, MUCH better choice.
The rifle will be as accurate as you are. I would say 1-3" MOA @ 100 Yards with good ammo & good shooting would be average.
My DDM4 V1 Loves to eat:
-Prvi Partizan (PPU) 75 Gr. match Boat Tail. I get .75-1.5" MOA @ 100 Yards with it consitently.
-Black Hills Ammunition CO. (BHA) 75 Gr. Match Boat Tail Crome Molly Coated.
-Hornady TAP 75 Gr.
Bitteroot Valley Ammo CO (BVAC) 62 Gr. Match Boat Tail.
-PPU SS109/M855
-Federal XM193
-Silver Bear 62 Gr. Match Boat Tail (For cheapo stuff)
-Wolf ( FOr even cheaper stuff every once in a while when I need to shoot a shit ton, but don’t want to pay out the ass for it)
It shoots well with everything I have fed her so far; accuray gets less than desireable when I get the cheaper stuff, as all rifles would.
Congrats and shoot the shit out of her!
Thanks for the info on the ammo. Nice to know it eats anything I have around 800rds of cheap 55gr. stuff. I will get some good stuff for bench sessions. Sound like your enjoying yours. I cant wait to shoot the shit out of it:D
MrMilspecer,
Just curious, what was said and what made you “see the light”?
I am sure you had a 100% confidence 32-days ago when you ordered the RRA, just wondering what gave you “pre-buyer’s remorse”. ![]()
BTW, great choice! I’m sure you’ll love the DD.
Thanks.
.
Well it was a number of things as stated above. Made in house, the barrel ( my CZs have hammer forged barrels and i can hit flies them) the weight (love lightwieght accurate rifles mine see much more feild use than my Bull barreled rifles) I got a chance to hold RRA like I had ordered and it felt a little front-heavy. I did find myself second guessing myself and reacted while I still had time. I still think RRA has a good product and if they would have shipped on time I would have lived with my decesion and purchased a milspec weapon for my second one. Now I wont have to purchace another AR I think the DDM4 will cover most bases. I think it will be fun to hunt yotes with this rifle and be ready for zombies.
Awesome choice on the DD. A 32 day wait on RRA’s?
Did some mall security force order some?
My co-worker had a 14-month wait on his, albeit during the Obama craze. RRA seems to always be running a month or more behind their projected schedules.
RRA told me they were waiting on barrels for some models and could be up to a sixty day wait. Gives people like me time to think things over.:sarcastic:
congrats on the DDM4. I have a DDM4v5 and it is awesome. I love it. But I have FTF issues with Silver Bear 62gr HP. It is not a short stroking issue either since it happens when I chamber a round. It gets pinched between the chamber and the mag. I have tried 3 different mags to no avail. The mags locks the bolt back after last shot. Brass is gtg though. It is just with Silver Bear. I might try other steel ammo to see if it is an issue. Other than not being able to shoot steel, it is an excellent AR.
EXCELLENT choice!!![]()
I was in a local shop a couple of days ago and I got to handle a DDM4v5. Very nice rifle. Congrats OP.
I weighed my choices for a long time. The consensus on the forum here is that quality is the biggest factor in choosing an AR/M4. I almost went with an RRA or S&W, but I heard so many good things about BCM and DD. I ended up getting a DDXV and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve got a top tier quality carbine with a great company that firmly stands behind their product. At this point in my life getting an M4 is a lot of money for me and my wife (went back to school full time). Even thought it cost me a bit more to get the DD I have the confidence of knowing it’s one of the best quality out there. Wait till you shoot it, you’ll have a hard time getting the grin off your face.
Congrats!
RRA is a very popular brand of AR15 in general. Maybe not on this site, but they do tend to sell well and typically are recommended first by gun shops

Wanna bet…? You’ll but another one…or two…

Was only $214 out of my pocket. Anyway Ive got to run need to clean DD and get to shooting. I have one hour before I take my wife to the airport. A new AR, wifes gone for 4 days, Sturgeon fishing tomarow…God does love me at times. Thanks for the replies.
What a great choice…
DD FTW!

Great rifle. There really is something about a handy light weight carbine.
Back when I was in the business I remember the guys at DPMS telling me they were 105,000 rifles behind. Rock River never gave me the exact numbers but I got the feeling it was a similar number. This was of course leading up to the panic when Obama got elected.
where did you get a upper for 325.00?
