Just wanted to thank guys at the site who posted on FAL knowledge lately. I have always wanted one from the standpoint of it beng a truly historical gun.
I asked alot of stupid questions and got great answers. Helped me get my slightly
used STG 58. Could not be happier with it. Great battle rifle! Thanks again.
I already took it to the range and it is a pleasure to shoot. Shot 2" groups with
M80 reloads and 1.7" with some 168 SMK’s. Great iron sights. Was killin milk jugs full of water at 200yrds all day long. Great fun.
Well, I got to get out an try some new handloads in the FAL. I am really suprised at how accurate this thing is shooting! As a Highpower shooter I always heard guys badmouthing the FAL in favor of the M14, but man this thing can shoot!
I would still choose a M14 for Highpower due to the better sights, but accuracy is great for both rifles.
The group really made me glad I found this rifle. Its 1.102" for 5 shots
at 100yds. 42.5gr of TAC over a WIN 147 FMJBT bullet. WOW!
The scope cover is cool. And with the LaRue SPR mount I can take it on and off
and it does not move. Only problem is thats its really for an AR ( off my varmint rig) and it sits up a little high. I wish LaRue make a lower mount
to get a better cheek weld. Plus contrary to the advertising the mount is still chewing up my brass. Its not causing any function issues, but it is
smacking the mount on the top rear of where it is cut out on the rail.
The LaRue mount is a wee bit high, as you stated. You might be better off going with just rings, like a set of Leupold or Warne QD rings. That will bring the scope back down where it should be.
I was thinking the same thing. I have really been impressed
with the LaRue products return to zero after removal. But they do not
make the mounts/rings low enough. Maybe I will call them and chat
about the FAL communities needs
