Thank you for NOT passing the recent gun control legislation. As long as you continue to promote 2nd Amendment rights, I will continue to support you, fund you, promote you and personally vote for you in all your future elections.

Even though we all make good decisions to avoid danger in our daily lives, there were 1.2 million violent crimes in the United States during 2011 and having a gun at the right time could prevent you from being a victim. So good job on preserving the right for people to protect themselves by easily finding and buying modern firearms - and not treating the good guys like bad guys!

Reading the news recently, I find it funny how so many people are condemning the NRA/GOA for “buying Senators” and “forcing votes”, because it wasn’t the NRA/GOA who actually made thousands of phone calls every day to Senators across the country. It wasn’t the NRA/GOA who actually took the time to send thousands of emails. WE are the real ones changing the minds of elected officials. WE won this victory because of our email campaigns, phone calls to Senators, social media sharing, and more than anything else - We got involved!

It is the job of responsible law abiding gun owners to show people that guns aren’t evil, to explain gun safety, to explain what gun ownership really means, and get them interested. Furthermore, it is up to each of us to educate people on gun rights, why those rights exist, and that with the right of gun ownership, carry, use, and self-defense comes with a huge personal responsibility.

So what to do now?

  1. Continue to support gun rights
  2. Continue to react to your constituents
  3. Take the time to learn about firearms

So let me offer this to you: I shoot just about every weekend and if you don’t then I urge you to come and spend a day seeing how good people can come together, be safe, have fun, and use guns responsibly. Even if you’re anti-gun you are still invited! I’m of the opinion that as shooters we are “ambassadors of the sport” and I’m willing to spend time exchanging ideas if you are.

Good call bro. I used your letter and modified it a bit. Thanks for posting this.
