Thank you M4CARBINE.NET

Just wanted to say thanks to the forum for steering me in the right direction. I have been lurking around here for a while, and while I don’t post often, I do read from the forums everyday. I was finally able to part with a Bushmaster which I bought prior to joining, and now have a Colt LE6920 Magpul Edition on the way. This is by far the most informative and knowledgeable forum I have come across! Sorry if this looks like it should be a Facebook post, just wanted to say thanks. You guys have converted me!

Thank you for reading first, posting second, and actually following the advice given here. I’m sure you’re gonna love your 6920.

I can second this, I don’t post much but I read here daily and am always learning something new. Congrats on your Colt OP.

Amen to that^. It’s nice to hear success stories. I was one of the lucky ones that started off on the right foot with a DDM4V1 ( this rifle has damn near 10K through it now). Thank god I decided to come here and read for a few months when I was in the market before I pulled the trigger on a AR, before hand I was geeking over another brand that is not so popular. My LGS gave me a cup of STAG kool-aid stating it was absolutely the best flavor. The knowledge I found here from reading was priceless.

But yeah OP Thanks for taking the time to do your homework and being open to information. A rifle is not cheap to most and when we spend that type of money its hard to admit we made a mistake and when challenged we tend to justify it, instead of listening to reason, I am glad you did. Enjoy your 6920, I know you will.

I would have saved a lot of money if I found this site before I started AR shopping

I used the search feature a bit too much when building mine and ended up blowing the budget by 50%. However, it beats spending that much on a Bushmaster.

I concur. This place is a plethora of info and no bs advice.

Here here.

When I first started looking at ARs, I didn’t know a Bushmaster from a BCM and was bewildered. At first, I didn’t even visit this site because I didn’t know what the hell an M4 was.

Once I started realizing which sites were bullshit and which were worthwhile, I spent months lurking here and asking the occasional stupid questions.

After a while, I learned about BCM and the then unreleased KMR. Based on lots of good advice, I settled on a BCM SS410 Recce with a KMR for my first AR. It’s amazing and I’m happier than a pig in shit.

Thanks indeed M4C.

I research dishwashers before forking cash over.

I’m starting to learn that the diligence put forth in weapon selection can be good in other realms as well.

Same for me too!

Like Airhasz stated, I try to research any major purchase rather than jumping into the deep end of the pool first. It’s nice to have a website that helps you weed out the wheat from the chaff!

And, why shouldn’t we? I mean, if we’re on this forum, we obviously have access to the internet. And…you can find information about any and everything on the internet.

I wish I had done a bit more research before buying my first AR. I had just gotten into hog-hunting and realized that my bolt rifles were just not going to cut it when there’s 10 or 15 hogs under my feeder I ended up purchasing a RRA Elite Operator II, and while it is an accurate AND fine functioning rifle…I still have the little seeds of doubt pertaining to the lack of MP/HPT testing of certain parts, the lack of chrome lining, and general durability (no issues so far, and only time will tell).

Then, to pour salt on my own wound…I bought my second AR, a DPMS Oracle. Granted, I bought this rifle to be a rifle I would treat much more roughly than my hunting rig…and it has been a fun rifle for plinking and letting other family members get behind the trigger of an AR rifle. But once again…I dropped the ball.

It was only AFTER these two purchases did I find the forums on AR-type rifles. I wish I had found them sooner is all I’m going to say. No better data that people’s real-life experiences.

On a happy ending to this post…I am now the proud owner of a BCM 14.5" upper mated with a Spikes Tactical lower w/enhanced parts kit (with a QD EOTech EXP-2 optic). So, I at least have the one rifle that I have absolutely no worries/concerns about.

It takes me at least a month to pick an appliance.

I too read a ton of info here for almost 4 months before buying my first AR (a Colt 6920 like yours).

I just bought my second Colt AR.

Oh yeah…it pays to do your research.

It’s interesting to see the wide array of options that people have today when it comes to quality ARs. When the ban sunsetted in 2004, the only common options in stores were Colt, Bushmaster, Olympic, and Rock River. Colt seemed to be almost unobtainable - sold out at my local stores for months after the sunset. Everyone (including at the class I took in Oct '04) just said to buy Bushmaster, so that’s what I did. I was pretty disappointed with the “feel” of the Bushmaster compared to the military rifles I was used to - the BCG felt gritty when pulling back the charging handle, the trigger guard was plastic, etc. I put an LMT SOPMOD stock and RE on it, along with a KAC RAS, and to be honest, I lost interest in it after a year or two because it just didn’t live up to my expectations. A couple years after that, Stag became popular (someone who seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about ARs told me that Stag produced parts for Colt), and mid length gas systems appeared too. BCM rifles didn’t even exist back then. I focused on pistols and didn’t rekindle my interest in ARs until I started reading this forum two years ago. I have a BCM now, but I’m still trying to decide what to do with that old Bushmaster. Either sell it during the next panic or completely rebuild it, keeping only the stripped lower.

I second those thoughts. It’s great to have resource when you don’t know much and want to prevent bad choices.
