This documentary is getting a lot of attention. It’s a unique film that looks at the genocide during the 60s in Indonisia. The actual men who killed tens of thousands of people are actually used to reenact what they did. A very strange and surreal film.
“A documentary that challenges former Indonesian death squad leaders to reenact their real-life mass-killings in whichever cinematic genres they wish, including classic Hollywood crime scenarios and lavish musical numbers.”
Very interesting. You should read “The Trial of Henry Kissinger” by Christopher Hitchens. Kissinger had his fingers in this Genocide along with other crimes.
Sounds interesting but I really hope those murderers weren’t paid for their “reenactments” this time around. I wonder if there is a way to confirm that one way or another before I buy a copy of the DVD.
An interview with the director was very interesting. The government would not let him interview the families of the victims, and it was they who told the director he should go talk those who committed the genocide. He came to find they were more than willing to, and seen celebrities in the country. It’s a truly bizzare story.
Anwar Congo, the main individual in this film, loses his shit when he re-enacts a typical killing that he commited, this time as a victim. He really does suffer from some serious PTSD. At the end of the film it shows him dry heaving and puking at the site where he killed so many people. I think they get a pass from the world because they were killing “communists”. This is on Netflix FYI.
Some people just don’t get it and never will. I made it to the talk shows in the trailer and had to stop. I imagine if you slaughtered his grandchildren he’d have the same rage and pain as anyone else and would scream for justice but the irony of the situation would probably never occur to him.
This is just another country and culture that sucks. There are those who see the 9-11 hijackers and members of Black September as heroes. Jamal Al-Gashey is still protected and seen as a hero by many countries.
