TAX TIME!!!!!!!!!! help me work out the specifics of my build

I don’t understand why colt is the answer for everything. I mean if something else is built to the same standards for a cheaper price, why even consider it? I am not saying bcm is better than colt but if I refer to the chart they are the same, but bcm is cheaper.

I all honesty you are right, johnd3906. All things being equal the less expensive option is the better one.

I can’t speak for IG, but I suspect what he was trying to tell you as a newcomer is to start with a basic weapon of the highest quality and go from there. As far as the piston, seems more and more like a solution to a problem that never existed.

Yeah I understand what he is saying and I am not by any means saying he is wrong rather asking what the differences between bcm and colt are? Is there any benefit of paying an extra ~100 or is it just for the colt roll mark? I am not looking to sell this in the future so I am not taking resale value of it into account. Piston is pretty much out of the picture. After reading that a professional training institute which probably abused more than I ever would ran 26k through the exact upper I want, with very minimal hiccups attributed to the dirtiness of the weapon pretty much negates the $400 piston system.

It’s got shit to do with a rollmark. It’s a simple and easy solution for someone new to AR’s. Trust me, this thread can drag on for ever.

For the record I am a huge proponent of BCM. My SBR is a BCM, my friends use BCM and I have built several AR’s using their stuff.

Another option would be to get a blemished lower with standard M4 buttstock and a standard 16" mid length upper- http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16.htm

Add a Magpul MOE handguard, BCG and a rear BUIS and call it a day.

You don’t need a piston. And an AR will run even with minimal cleaning and being dirty as long as it is built correctly and lubed properly.

I’m doing pretty much that exact build, just with a lightweight barrel. Problem is they are out of stock right now!
