Not sure where to post … My team has tasked me with making some targets that we can use as movers at the range. We’re getting to use a 1000 yd range next month and we want to shot some moving targets. I’m thinking something like the ones the military uses The ones on the sticks that guys in the pits would walk with. Where do I find these? What are my alternatives ?
All you need is the paper target of your choice, card board cut to size, and long sticks from the Homie Depot.
Those will generally be IDPA or USPSA/IPSC targets. Shop around for the best price. The scoring zones are different, the USPSA targets will be white on one side, but the total dimensions are almost identical.

For long range shooting, I’d recommend either spray paint them or buy the B27 targets, which are much easier to see at a distance.
Just a thought, if you use pre-made silhouettes, cut them down to mimic a side view of a walking human being. Side step may be a viable way to move formations in garrison, but I assure you it does not apply in combat. Is this for static long range markmanship or closer range combat marksmanship? For static (perhaps working with dope for leading moving targets), it is important to try to maintain the same walking speed for reliable baseline holds. For combat, change it up. Typically, if you get shot at you will (preferably) take cover, and most of the time will start running. Try to simluate a few different scenarios depending on time/ammo.
Also, get some bright colored golf tees, orange preferred. Lower the targets and stick them in the holes to show the shooters where they hit and whether they need to adjust their lead or not. At further ranges, white or bright colored cardboard disks skewered by the golf tees will make a great marker.
Be sure you have radio contact with both elements. Also, ear pro for the pit workers. Those cracks get real old real fast.
